godaddy, google apps & wordpress domain mapping
-
Our organization have a domain which is registered on godaddy.com. We also
use the google apps extensively. Therefore we use alot url links like:
– start.mydomain.com
– docs.mydomain.com
– mail.mydomain.com
– calendar.mydomain.com
We handle the url by creating CNAME records using the godaddy’s Total DNS Control.Right now we are interested to create our organization website on wordpress.com.
I read that wordpress.com provide upgrade option for domain mapping. However, I see
that the only option is to change name server in our DNS into ns1.wordpress.com, etc. What do we want is mapping http://www.mydomain.com into our blog page in wordpress.com.
Can wordpress show us how to the domain mapping via CNAME records methods? Because
I do not want to lose the other google apps URL such as mail.mydomain.com, docs.mydomain.com.Thanks for anyone who can anwer our questions.

Yes!
Leave your DNS at Godaddy.
CNAME www or blog or whatever you would like to point to example.wordpress.com. (Where example.wordpress.com is your normal WordPress address.)
Now go to Upgrades > Domains and add that domain, for example blog.example.com. It costs $10/year.
Let me know how that goes.

Hi Matt,
now I am a little confused. In the WordPress control panel, I choose Upgrade > Domains.
Suppose my domain is example.com. What do I enter in the “Add a domain” text box?
http://www.example.com or example.comI read the other posts in the forum, it looks like wordpress.com does not accept any domain mapping with www in the beginning. Is it true?

Hi Matt,
this is was exactly what I was trying to accomplish (only difference DynDNS instead of GoDaddy).I did what you said, but when I try to add the domain “www.pixcake.com” to “pixcake.wordpress.com” I get the message “This domain has already been mapped to a WordPress.com blog.”
This is probably due to the fact that I previously bought the 10 credits and mapped “pixcake.wordpress.com” to “pixcake.com” (causing the problem with subdomains “start.pixcake.com”, “mail.pixcake.com”, …)
How can I remove this mapping and start again?
Many thanks in advance and keep the good job!
