GoDaddy or Siteground or Bluehost or just stay with godaddy

Hello, I have not created a wordpress site since college in like 2010. I want to transfer the company i work for website from wix to wordpress without effecting SEO. Our domain is with godaddy.com. I have been getting all different information online. Should I keep godaddy.com for our domain and just use wordpress directly or should I use siteground or bluehost and have our dns records point to their servers. OR should I just keep godaddy and create the site on wordpress??

It seems a bit odd to create an account here at the host WordPress.com and expect someone (staff or a forum volunteer) to recommend hosting elsewhere.

  • @usadoorsandgate you can surely move your site to WordPress.com, we have a guide that would help you with it:

    https://transferto.wordpress.com/wix/.

As for the domain, that all depends on what you prefer.
If you purchase one of our paid plans, you can either map it – your domain will stay with the current registrar and you’ll need to go to their site to manage anything domain-related.

Or you can transfer the domain to WordPress.com and we’ll be your new registrar. This way you’ll manage everything from one place and you’ll be able to reach support with any domain related-issues :)

Here you can find more information: https://wordpress.com/support/domain-mapping-vs-domain-transfer/.

    @themagicrobot
, the OP is considering different options to use WordPress it’s perfectly normal that they will want to know more about WordPress.com.

@themagicrobot I thought this was a public forum where anyone can comment and give support. Not volunteers that don’t help. I find it a bit odd that you write unnecessary comments. I am still planning on using wordpress either way if its through siteground or directly through wordpress. I am sure wordpress is still benefiting from people using siteground as I am sure they are a partner. I think wordpress would want to be helpful like staff-mckluskey was to give potential customers what they need.

Thank you for your advice @frescatomica !!

  • usadoorsandgate,

I suspect the confusion comes from the difference between WordPress (the open-source software available at WordPress.org) and WordPress.com (a WordPress specific web host).

You can learn more about the differences here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

The “public forum where anyone can comment and give support” for WordPress open-source software is here:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

On these WordPress.com forums, we are only able to assist with sites hosted here on WordPress.com.

Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.
