Godaddy Site repointing to WordPress
-
Hi, I have a Godaddy domain and basic site. I want to use WordPress to build a better website. My question is, if I keep Godaddy as my current provider and point my website to wordpress.com. Will the WordPress website be published automatically when I repoint my domain to WordPress or can I keep my site private on WordPress while still keeping my Godaddy site live until I am done with the WordPress site?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi,
It sounds like you would like to keep your domain with Godaddy while hosting your website on WordPress.com?
This is definitely possible, you won’t need to keep any basic site at Godaddy (just your domain). You will need to upgrade WordPress.com to a paid plan to enable using a custom domain. There will be steps to follow in order to point your domain to the WordPress.com name servers, more information can be found here, https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
While developing your site you can keep it private (it will only show a coming soon page to other users) and when you’re ready set it to public. https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/

Thank you for the information uryyb, it really helped. Will my website still be up on Godaddy until I am finished with the WordPress website? I cant afford to be down to rebuild a whole website.

Yes, you could wait on changing the name servers until the new site is ready. This will leave your current website active. Once the new site is done, change the name servers to point at WordPress.
