Going back from premium to free

  • Unknown's avatar

I simply don’t have time to blog anymore and I don’t want to renew premium, which comes with a registered domain that I am prepared to let go of. However, I’d like to keep my generic blogname.wordpress.com domain and have what few posts I’ve done so far still appear there. How do I do this? If I simply let premium expire, will this be what happens automatically? Also, how do I make sure premium won’t auto-renew? Thanks in advance for any help.

you should be able to remove the auto-renew at your upgrades – but the staff will probably need to remove the old domain mapping overlay for you

I have flagged this for the staff to help

  • Hi Rob,

You can just let your domain expire if you would like. Make sure you wouldn’t want to use the domain in the future because there is no guarantee that you will be able to retrieve it once it expires. Someone else may grab it.

Auto renew under your account is disabled, so you will not have to worry about charges automatically being withdrawn from your account.

As @auxclass mentioned, I can go ahead and cancel the custom domain under your account to prevent the overlay from appearing once it expires. But again, make sure it isn’t a domain you will want to use again in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions and if you want me to cancel the domain address for you. Otherwise, we can wait until right before the domain expires on 3/4 before cancelling it – assuming you want to use it during the last few months.

    Thanks!
