Going from cargocollective to wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, I’m interested in changing my website from cargocollective to wordpress. I have my own domain name and pay for a premium cargocollective account, but I’m just a little confused on how to take the first few steps on switching over. I am pretty tech savvy but don’t exactly know where to start.

It is my portfolio site, and I just want a little more coding/styling freedom than what cargocollective offers me. You can view the site at http://hilarythompson.co

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

If cargocollective has an XML export feature, you should be able to export your content from there and import it into WordPress. If they don’t, it will be a little trickier.

One other thing to consider, if the reason you are moving is you want more coding/styling freedom, then you may be happier with a WordPress.ORG instal. Here’s more on the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I believe if you go to a self-hosted WordPress.org site you also have more options for how you move your content–but I am much less experienced with WordPress.org than I am with WordPress.com.

If you decide WordPress.ORG is the way to go, you’ll want to go over to the support forum for those sites to ask your questions. Here’s the link:

    Best of luck!
