going from free wordpress blog to my own server
-
i have a blog using the name.wordpress.com free blog service. now i want to get my own server, download wordpress and have my blog there as I am starting podcasting and would like to have plugins.
what will happen to my current blog? can I copy it over to what I will be creating on the server?
-
Nothing will happen to your current blog unless you delete it. You can use the import function on your new blog to suck in all the posts on the old one, but it doesn’t delete the old one.

it sucks in everything, like the presentation formats etc etc. exact same look and feel?
thanks

No, just the content. Just the typing. Look and feel and operability are different. You have to install your own themes, for instance.

and there is no way the free blog can have plugins? if i want my podcast to play or be downloadable from my blog, i need to get my own server and download wp and build the site again?

There is no way the free blog can have plugins, that’s right.
But you can post video in several formats including Podtech, YouTube, Google Vid, Grouper, and the proprietary WordPress.com video player. Just do a forum search or FAQ read through to see the details.
