Going Live
-
Hi: I am very new to websites. I am having trouble understanding a couple of things, and would REALLY appreciate a response in as simple terms as possible.
1. I don’t understand how to go live with the website. I know that buying the business plan gives me a free domain. Does that mean I don’t have to purchase a new url name, from GoDaddy or whatever?
2. What is webhosting, phpadmin and cpanel and how do those relate to me going live with the website? I know that there are guides to all of these, but it would help me learn easier if someone just explained it to me in simple terms because I have literally no idea what any of those do.So, if someone could just break down what those three things are in terms of how they relate to taking the website live, and then explaining the free domain given with a plan, it would be awesome. I am super lost, I know it isnt that hard but this is my first time really doing this and I do not want to mess it up for my client.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Welcome to the WordPress Forum Community :)

If you plan to purchase either a Personal, Premium, or Business plan with WordPress.com, a free domain is included in your plan. You will not need to purchase a domain (or as you mentioned, URL name) with GoDaddy or other domain resellers.
2. What is webhosting, phpadmin and cpanel and how do those relate to me going live with the website?
Web hosting refers to which server your site’s files are installed. If you choose a WordPress.com plan, WordPress.com will be your hosting provider (included in plan).
PHP Admin and CPanel are only accessible to sites that purchased the Business plan with WordPress.COM (**side note: this plan also includes awesome Business Support if you ever have any questions or concerns).
As a personal suggestion, WordPress.com is awesome for all levels of users. All plans offered with WordPress.com have access to the support forum (that’s here) where volunteers and staff will help. Additionally, the Personal to Business plans offer extra assistance with their live chat and email options.
Completely understand where your coming from, and we all have been there. :) Let me know if you need further clarification as I am always happy to assist!

Thank you so much!
So, to make sure I understand everything you are saying…
If i purchase the wordpress business plan from wordpress.com, wordpress will be my host, and that is all I need to go live… and then PHP Admin and CPanel are just like added bonuses to stay organized and backup things?
The last thing I have is, I have done everything on wordpress.com, but i know there is wordpress.ORG. Did I do something wrong buy not using .ORG? Because I see you emphasized the .COM when talking about PHP Admin and CPanel.

You got it!

WordPress.ORG is for self-hosted sites (sites that are NOT hosted with WordPress.COM). That means you would find a different hosting provider and will have to install WordPress manually. Personally, it can be a more complicated process and their isn’t too much support.
Definitely suggest you check the link below. It shows the difference between WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG:

That’s incorrect. PHP admin and CPanel dashboard are not offered by any WordPress.com plan. It’s not available on the WordPress.com Business plan either.

mitchellstephens, to answer your original 2 questions:
1. Yes, you get a domain credit for any WordPress.com plan from WordPress.com Personal plan and above. You can use it to buy a custom domain.
2. PHP admin and CPanel dashboards are not available for any WordPress.com plan users. It’s ideally not needed. I am curious as to why you feel like wanting that. Any specific reasons as to why you want that?

Hi @strikebuys,
I doubled checked my resources on PHP admin and CPanel and you are correct and I was mistaken. Thank you for bringing that to my attention!

I am also learning and I want to thank you for your advice and patience. I will be sure to keep this in mind in future support.
Cheers!

Thank you both so much for the help!
@strikebuys
I was asking about those things honestly just because when I looked up how to go live, I was told to maneuver through those sites, and I had no idea if they were necessary or not. -

allykmyta, absolutely! Happy to help. Good luck with your volunteering on WordPress.com forums!
mitchellstephens, no problem! Happy to help. Please feel free to get back like lizkarkoski said, if you have more questions.

mitchellstephens – I am going to close this thread. Quickly though I wanted to make sure you knew about the access you have to live chat and email support via https://wordpress.com/help/contact/ This is a feature of your upgraded plan.
