Going Live
-
Hi guys. I just completed creating my wordpress site online, and i’ll now at the stage where I want to take it live. Because i “developed” the site online, I don’t have any files on my computer to upload onto my server (linux). Could you please help me with options on how this would be done ? Thank you.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. Your site is ready to go, you just need to remove the privacy setting you used to hide it while you were getting it set up. Go to https://tealwash.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php in your dashboard and in the area marked “Site Visibility” change the selection to say “Allow search engines to index this site” and then scroll down and click on Save Changes. Your site will then be publicly available.

Hi Jenmylo, thanks for your reply. I already registered my site as http://www.tealwash.co.za. It is hosted on linux. I felt that my site needed some revamping and did so using a purchased template on wordpress. I now want to take this revamped version onto the linux server (the tealwash.wordpress.com site). Please could you assist with this. Thank you.

I’m a little confused, because you’re kind of saying two different things. I’m going to try and go line by line of your most recent response.
I already registered my site as http://www.tealwash.co.za. It is hosted on linux.
Linux is an underlying system, not the name of a hosting company. WordPress.com runs on Linux, too.
I felt that my site needed some revamping and did so using a purchased template on wordpress.
Okay, I see you purchased the Organization premium theme by the Organic Themes company.
I now want to take this revamped version onto the linux server (the tealwash.wordpress.com site).
This is the line that is confusing. I think what you’re saying is that you’d like to take the premium theme you bought on wordpress.com and move it over to your self-hosted site at tealwash.co.za. If that is what you meant, then here’s the situation:
1. WordPress.com is a fully-hosted service, so to move over to a self-hosted site, you can’t really download and upload the site files. You can export and import your content easily enough: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ but the theme isn’t transferable.
Themes purchased on wordpress.com are only for use on wordpress.com. As stated at http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/
When you purchase a premium theme, it is available for the lifetime of that blog. If you would like to use the same theme across multiple blogs, you’ll have to purchase the theme for each blog.
Note: Premium Themes that are licensed for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
That said, you bought the theme less than 30 days ago, so you can get a refund on it from wordpress.com.
If a Premium theme doesn’t work out we offer a full refund up to 30 days from your purchase. To cancel your purchase and obtain a refund, please use the Cancel button on the Store -> My Upgrades page.
2. Right now, your site at tealwash.co.za doesn’t run on WordPress at all, so the theme would be useless anyway, unless you are planning to install WordPress there (totally doable, the WordPress software is available as a free download at http://wordpress.org )
3. Alternately, instead of trying to take what you made on wordpress.com and recreate it somewhere else, you could keep the site on wordpress.com but map the domain you own so that if someone went to tealwash.co.za they would see the new site. That would require the domain mapping upgrade: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I hope this helps explain the options. If you need more assistance, don’t hesitate to ask.
