Going to WordPress.org

  I am trying to move to wordpress.org, I have bought a host and downloaded wordpress.org. I cannot find a way to change the nameservers to point at my domain. I am stuck as I now can’t seem to do anything with my WordPress.com account? Any ideas as to how to fix the problem?

  Well, you don’t appear to be logged into an account that has a blog here, for starters. I don’t know who your domain is registered to, but if it’s registered here, you’ll need to sign in as the admin of that particular blog in order to change the nameservers.

  I registered my domain and blog here under a trial version(which I deleted). I then chose to go with wordpress.org as it suited me better. I then paid for a host and checked the ‘I already own this domain box’. I have contacted my host and they have told me I need to see wordpress.com about this issue. I am new at this and a lot of it doesn’t make sense, so anything to go on would be greatly appreciated.

  You’re going to need staff assistance to sort this out. If you attached the domain to a blog you deleted you may or may not get it back. I will flag this for staff and you can wait till they are free to help.

  Your WordPress.com domain was canceled.

  You will need to wait several weeks until this domain passes through the cancellation process.

  If no one else claims the domain during that time, you will able to re-register it at your new registrar.

  Hi pmciano,

  Thanks for getting back to me. I have already registered the Domain name through Hostgator and my real problem is trying to access the domain to change the nameservers to point to my wordpress.org. (I think!!!) I have sent an email to Wild west domains who it says it is still registered too and they said to contact you. Not sure of the process from here? Any advice is much appreciated.

  Domain registration and site hosting are distinct services. For more information about the differences between domain registration, hosting, and mapping, please see our page All About Domains:

  This domain was only canceled with WordPress.com several days ago, so it is still moving through the cancellation process and is not yet available for re-registration, as I previously stated.

  In a week or two, if no one else has claimed the domain, you should be able to register it again with your new registrar. Then, you will be able to point the domain’s name servers where you like.
