Goodreads Widget

Is there a way to customize the widget? You won’t allow us to post the native Goodreads widgets from their site and the size of the image in the WordPress Goodreads widget is laughable.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Geoff,
Please note that the Goodreads widget on WordPress.com allows you to show the “Read,” “Currently Reading,” or “To-Read” shelves. We don’t allow Javascript or iframes due to security reason. But, if the native Goodreads are a necessity you can move your site to self-hosted WordPress.org.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.
Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
If this is what you would like to do, let me know and I can provide you instructions on moving your site.
Cheers!

Hi Grace,
I’m aware of the limitations of java/iframes. I’m asking why there aren’t customizations within the provided goodframes widget WordPress has built. Clearly there are many options on the widget (java provided) that WordPress could incorporate that would automatically pull and edit the app.
I’m already considering leaving wordpress, even though I spend almost $100 a year already, because of the new stats pages and lack of response from staff about the crappy new stats system, so upgrading to .org isn’t exactly something I’m interested in at the moment.

I wasn’t aware there was a desire for this. If you could post this in the Ideas forum, we can keep of user’s wants and tractions there:

Thank you!

I’ll add it but my expectations are not high. As mentioned in my first comment about the new stats experience and the complete lack of any acknowledgement by anyone from WordPress.

Hi there,
I see that you posted about the stats page here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/bypass-new-stats-page?replies=15
and you were asked to continue in the main thread here:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/massive-changes-to-the-wp-interface?replies=385
Was there something in that thread that you can add that hasn’t been addressed? Let me know and I’d be happy to forward the feedback along.
-
First, I did add something to that thread and it was never responded to. It was the SAME issue I created a separate thread for and NEVER received a response.
I understand WordPress would like us to use the new stats page, but when you override every way to get to the old stats page (and I see even some of those links have been deleted) and force us to bookmark separate links it decreases usability.
When I posted to the forums the only “staff” member (who had a creative title, rather than staff until later in the forum) had stopped responding. She started responding after the holidays but her responses became even vaguer and more “we’re working on feedback” and “it could take an indefinite amount of time” rather than answering specific questions.
I have yet to see a single thing taken into account as I’m reading over the suggested edits.
My biggest problem is that wordpress was over-riding the old stats page and forcing us into the new stats page through all of the links – a stats page which is clunky and even more difficult to use on a desktop page because it is one column, it doesn’t show everything one glance and forces you to toggle between multiple sections.
Until the stats page has been updated taking the hundreds of comments feedback into account, AS the staff member says will happen, we shouldn’t be forced into the new page by every link to the stats page.
-
I’ve also found that that one was closed down and many new ones have sprung up. And the same woman, the only staff member, is responding with even less helpful answers,
<quote>The newer pages are preferred, and constructive feedback about them helps us make those pages better. Moving forward is better in the long term.</quote>
How are we supposed to be encouraged in providing feedback when everything is being shut down by WordPress?
I went to go add a note about the fact that having views and visitors on separate pages isn’t helpful, there’s no way to compare the two except by memory. That’s one of the major advantages of the old stats page (in addition to the multiple columns.
-
Yes Sheri is a long time staff member and we have been monitoring the threads fairly closely. The feedback has been noted and forwarded to our stats team.

This is great feedback. I have reported this to our team for review. Once I hear back I’ll let you know.
Cheers!

It seems to have updated sometime over the past few days. Is there a lag time? I waited about 24 hours before I started looking for troubleshooting options.
-
Sounds great! Yes, it will usually take some time. If it’s not updated in maybe 2-3 days, let me know!
