Goodreads widget updated & I can't customize the appearance – Please update!
-
According to this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/goodreads-widget/
the widget should display covers of books only. Well something updated and it is showing the full titles of books, part of my reviews, and is way too long on the page. Is wordpress going to update the widget so that we can customize all of this? I want to show off what book’s I’ve read but I don’t want it to take up so much vertical space in the sidebar. Also, if I go to goodreads.com I can fully customize several widgets but wordpress does not support using these by using the “text” widget. Thank you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please read the sticky post at the head of these support forums https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/goodreads-widget-5?replies=1

The sticky post hasn’t been updated in weeks, and looks like it’s actually been closed. I’m curious about this, too. The widget is now huge and clunky – what changes are going to be made, and what does the timeline look like?
-
The sticky post was not helpful as I went into “support” and searched for the answer to my problem. When I completed the search I was prompted to submit a help request – I did not realize it was a forum that I needed to search in addition to the “support” section.
Are there any updates to the goodreads app? I am having additional problems: Now when I try to change the bookshelf (for example, from “read” to “to read”) the content remains the same. Additionally it is not displaying my most recent read books – I cleared my browser cache and reloaded and it’s showing the same static information.
At this point I would love to remove the widget until it is fixed. Is there some kind of timeline to making the changes? Am I experiencing issues that other users aren’t?

@miscmarilyn – Just so you know, my widget is doing the exact same thing. I really hope they’re still working on this issue and haven’t forgotten about us.

This is the latest Staff reply I could find. Apparently these changes are on the Goodreads end: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/faulty-display-of-book-titles?replies=2#post-1503510
Sorry for no better news.

I would like to let support staff know this issue is still happening when I activate the goodreads widget. I have removed it from my sidebar but saved the settings. It was very ugly on my blog as it was showing paragraphs of text of my reviews with no way to hide that, and not updating with my most recently read books. I would very much like the bugs in this widget to be fixed. If staff would like to help me troubleshoot please let me know and I will activate it again so you can see the problem.

Hi again,
I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting. -
Hi there, I’ll do my best to answer your questions about the Goodreads widget — please let me know if you have any other questions.
According to this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/goodreads-widget/
the widget should display covers of books only. Well something updated and it is showing the full titles of books, part of my reviews, and is way too long on the page.It looks like the screenshot on our support page came from a Goodreads account that didn’t have any written book reviews. Sorry about that! Goodreads will automatically include your reviews in the widget, and I’ll work on updating the screenshot on our support page to reflect that.
Is wordpress going to update the widget so that we can customize all of this?
At this time, we don’t have a way to include all of Goodreads’ widget customizations in our widget. However, this is something we’ll keep in mind for future updates to our widget if that option becomes available to us later on.
I am having additional problems: Now when I try to change the bookshelf (for example, from “read” to “to read”) the content remains the same. Additionally it is not displaying my most recent read books – I cleared my browser cache and reloaded and it’s showing the same static information.
It sounds like the Goodreads account and widget settings were being cached somewhere on your site or in between your site and Goodreads. It can take a little time for cached information like that to be updated. One way to force it to update faster is to delete the widget and then recreate it (under Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard).

Thank you. I can change the shelf now if I delete the widget & re-add it.
What I couldn’t figure out until now was that the “read” shelf displays books by “date added,” not by the date I actually read them so it appeared it wasn’t updating correctly. Very confusing.
I’d love to see a future update which lets us display books in the order we read them. -
