Google Ads Make Me Look LIke An Idiot

I have disabled the Sharing feature on my blog because apparently Google Ads that I did not ask for come with the deal. Funny that I don’t see them when logged in. I run an art/urban activist blog and having ads for downtown condos on my blog makes me look like a total idiot!

I have nothing against Word Press earning some bucks, but I am very, very angry about the content of these ads.

They have been running occasional ads on blogs here since 2006 to help pay for all the servers, datacenters, bandwidth and all the development and support staff. Anyone logged into wordpress will not see the ads. It has always been that way. Typically they will only show up if the visitor comes in from a search engine, and then supposedly not all the time. Just occasionally.

You can get the no-ads upgrade and all the ads will disappear from your blog as long as you keep it renewed once a year.

BTW they are in no way connected to the sharing feature.

I’ve heard about Sci3ntology ads on WordPress mental health recovery sites. Blame Google, WordPress is just using the service, it’s Google who makes the rules.

A good idea might be to create an image, or add some text to a widget, just to let people know you’re not responsible for the ads.

Thanks for replying quickly. I ve known there were ads, somewhere, but didn’t know they were those ones that try to work locally. This is still very embarrassing, and I am having a hard time shaking off the image of what some people must be saying….lol. My blog is often quite political and some people could have a ball with this. Well, I guess I have tough enough skin, but it is very frustrating to have a situation like this where it seems helpless, just gotta roll with the punches until that day comes when Word Press says we gotta pay, lol.
Maybe a sidebar disclaimer will do the trick, but we all know it shouldn’t have to come down to that somehow. Takes the your in charge aspect of blogging totally away from the blogger

    Thanks again.

We’ve been over this. It’s not the sharing options that are the issue. The only way to get them off is to buy the upgrade.

Look at the bright side …. It will give you one great post. If you get it right the owners of the condos will be complaining to google about their adverts being made to look stupid by appearing on your blog!

And Google will say, talk to WordPress.

    :-)
