Can I use Google Adsense now that I've bought domain mapping?

  • Unknown's avatar

I see from the support page that ads are not allowed on FREE wordpress blogs. I have a dot com I have purchased through WordPress. Am I allowed to have Google’s Adsense on my blog? Is the Ad Control service intended for people with free blogs? Or do I have to follow its terms even with a purchased blog?

I’d like to start promoting my blog, but will lose a lot of revenue if I have to work up to 25,000 hits/month before I even begin using AdSense. If I am allowed to use AdSense with a purchased blog through wordpress, where do I go in the dashboard to insert the code? Thanks in advance,

    David,

Unfortunately, despite the fact the that you’ve bought a domain mapping upgrade, the blog is still hosted here at WordPress.com which means that the same advertising restrictions apply. If, however, you wish to move to a self-hosted WordPress.org you can use your new domain in conjunction with any hosting you purchase (we have suggestions here), by just changing the nameservers to match those required by your host (instructions to help you change your nameservers can be found here).

If I were to upgrade and host my own blog, would I still have access to WordPress’ online formatting tools (themes, dashboard, etc)?

  • The dashboard is almost identical between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, some minor differences are due to functionalities available on one side and not the other, but you won’t be lost at all.
