I purchased the .com address for my blog, can I now apply for google Adwords.
I want to choose who advertises on my blog and supply links to products I reccomend, not necessarily for payment?

Hi yes seen that thanks….So i purchased the .com for my blog so its pompomchocolate.com rather than .wordpress.com. I want to run some ads to try and generate a small income from it, however I want to choose what I advertise and place links for products I have reviewed etc so not sure wordads is the way to go for me. If I change to wordpress .org and sign up to get it hosted will my blog and it’s contents get brought over for me.?
Being new to all this I find just being given links to support pages a bit confusing, can I just talk to someone at wordpress!!? I don’t mind paying a fee to get it all set up (as long as it’s not silly money) I just want to get on with it!!!
    Frustrated, sorry :-)

  • Hi,

will my blog and it’s contents get brought over for me.?

The short answer is no, part of the tradeoff with self-hosting is that you are responsible for doing setup and maintenance yourself. That having been said, we do have a couple of resources to help. Here is an instructional guide we have made about moving from .com to a self-hosted .org site:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

We also have a paid service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

If setting up a .org site is a little daunting for you, you could check out the link below and find a freelance WordPress designer to help you out:

Finally, the .org community has a great set of support documents and a very helpful forum community that you can reach out to with any questions you might have about setting up your site or importing the .com export of your posts.

Being new to all this I find just being given links to support pages a bit confusing, can I just talk to someone at wordpress!!?

Please don’t take being shown support links to be a sign that we are not paying attention or are just trying to get rid of you. We post them simply because there are so many common questions answered there. It’s easy for people to miss those answers when searching, there is a lot to look through. But we find that pointing them to a specific page helps to cut through the confusion.

I am here to help, let me know any other questions you might have.

    Hi There,
I am thinking of using the guided transfer. A lot of the products etc are listed on amazon so I have joined as an affiliate/associate. Will your ‘Happiness Engineer’s’ help me to add links from amazon etc so I can hit the ground running?
    Lin

  • Hi Lin,

The Guided Transfer moves your existing WordPress.com content over to your new site at your new host. It doesn’t help in creating or installing any new content, themes or plugins.
