  • Hi there,

Google Analytics support on WordPress.com is only available as a feature of the WordPress.com Business plan:

    Connect to Google Analytics

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Cheers,

analytics.google.com says it’s a free service so why does word press charge for it?

Pardon me but I’d like to give answering this question a go and allow darnelldibbles to correct any errors I make.

There is no charge. This is a multiuser blogging platform Our sites share a common architecture. The functionality required to use Google Analytics is a free feature of the Business Plan only.

We have code restrictions at wordpress.COM. No javscript, no form codes, except this one https://en.support.wordpress.com/forms/contact-form, no iframes from unsupported sources or third party advertising codes, and no tracking codes can be used as the software will strip those codes out.

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#html-tags
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascript

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If I have to pay for the business plan to get google analytics, it isn’t free is it.
It would not let me put the tracking code in for my site on wordpress.org either.
I guess the bottom line is, if I don’t upgrade to a business plan, I don’t get analytics.

    You have three options.

The second one one is to leave this multiuser blogging platform that has code restrictions, pay a web host and set up an a stand alone wordpress.ORG software install and use Google Analytics on it. See: Moving to Self-Hosted WordPress http://move.wordpress.com

The third option is to blog on Blogger software as it is owned by Google and you can use Google Analytics on it.

[opinion] For personal site with the kind of content you have on yours now I wouldn’t bother pursuing any tracking code options. We already have stats https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ and there’s no need to track any visitors for that kind of site. [/opinion]

Thanks. I am taking a course on affiliate marketing and the instructor said to install it on our sites. I think I’ll wait till I’m done with the course and maybe turn my wordpress.org site into something I can use analytics on. kimsmyth.org is just kind of sitting there being a placeholder til I get ready to revamp it. Thanks for your help in clearing this up for me.

    affiliate marketing

May I offer some other information?

Truth be told not many who rely on affiliate marketing site income draw much income despite the inflated and ubiquitous promotional statements that they do.

Please consider what is in these support docs:
See first please: Types of Blogs http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

Types of sites that are not allowed:

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category.

Blogger initiated third party advertising is not allowed at WordPress.COM Please read: Monetize Your Site https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/ also note the affiliate linking section in that support doc.

Affiliate links are allowed on WordPress.com as long as the primary purpose of your blog is to create original content, rather than the ubiquitous promotional copy paste content aimed at driving traffic to third party sites that we witness all over the internet.

The only advertising program at WordPress.com is called WordAds and it’s for blogs on their own domains that have enough traffic to qualify for acceptance into the plan.

That’s wrong and first one was right. I’m sorry. I’m visually challenged and having a bad vision day. Logging out now after apologizing. :(
