Google Analytics on Blog
-
Hello! I’m looking to create and host my blog on WordPress. So far I only see the option to use Google Analytics on a Business plan ($25/mo.). However, I don’t need the business plan for my blog. As Google Analytics is a free tool, is there no way to add it to the blog paid account? Will Monsterinsights work on a blog account?
Thanks in advance!

Hi –
There are built in stats that come free from WordPress.com. I’d suggest using those to get started with.
Yes, you need a business plan to integrate any plugin. That’s how Google Analytics works with WordPress.

Hi –
Thank you for the quick response. So just to be clear, you cannot use ANY plugin with WordPress without paying a minimum of $25/month for a business account? No plugins for the premium account?
Thanks in advance for clarifying.

Hi there,
To use any plugin on our platform (WordPress.com), you need to get the Business plan. You can, however, use all the plugins you want if you host your site elsewhere by using the WordPress.org open source software found on https://wordpress.org
If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the open source WordPress.org software you can read this article:

The “no plug-in” sounds like a terrible joke. I’ve actually tried upgrading, but found that the business account wasn’t all that it is cracked out to be. And there are restrictions on things you have as a basic user. Not worth it.
Maybe you guys should think about charging for plug-ins instead.

@floatinggold thanks for the feedback. Adding plugins significantly increases the complexity of managing and supporting the sites, which is why it’s only offered on the Business plan and up.
You’re welcome to install your own copy of the free software, though, with another hosting provider. We just would not be able to provide management or support.
