Google Analytics on WordPress.com blogs
-
Hello,
I was trying to install a plugin to help with google analytics. I couldn’t figure out why I don’t have a plugins tab on my dashboard, and I read this page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/.OK, I understand why I don’t have the tab now, and I am aware of the analytics features built into WordPress.com, but I still would really like to have Google analytics functionality. Would it be possible to have the Google analytics for WordPress plugin installed to WordPress.com? It can be found here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/If this specific plugin can’t be installed, can something equivalent be done to get Google Analytics functionality, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you,
–Art R.

If you do a forum search, you’ll see that it has been requested many, many times and staff have not enabled it.
-
its really very sad that such a required feature isn’t available on WordPress.com blog. Alternately there’s an option though. You can insert your analytics code in a sidebar widget, it will still track traffic.

precogtyrant, thanks for responding to my post and for the tip about the widget.
I tried to paste the google analytics code into a widget like you suggested, but it didn’t work. I tried to do it in a side-bar widget and a footer widget, both had the same result.
Here is what happens. I go into the widgets control panel and drag a “Arbitrary Text or HTML” widget either into the footer area or the side bar. Then I paste in the code from google analytics. As soon as I hit the “Save” button, it saves it, but it also parses out all the
<script>tags. So what happens is, as soon as I refresh the actual blog page, it just shows the text of the code in the widget (minus the<script>tag that was parsed out).Have you actually been able to make this work? What am I doing wrong? I’d appreciate some advice if you have it.
Thanks.

@velocityfactor
The software will continue to strip the code out.Additional Info
Can I use Google Analytics?
No, Google Analytics cannot be used on WordPress.com blogs at this time. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#additional-infoNote: There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes this.

I second this request! I would love to use Analytics on my blog (http://www.shamrockie.com) in addition to the WordPress.com stats. They allow Webmaster tools, why not Analytics?
-
I don’t know any blogger who would not like to use Google Analytics. WordPress is doing its users a disservice by not allowing access to this and my guess would be there are many bloggers who will go to other sites to have the ability to use Google Analytics.
p.s. the stats page on wordpress doesn’t work properly. It’ll say I have one view but that same day I’ll have 7 likes.
-
That’s because you can Like a post you read on the Reader and you don’t show as a hit. Google Analytics won’t change that.
-
The main thing I don’t like about the WordPress.com analytics package is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to save (or view saved data) for longer than a month. I really like the way the data is displayed in the “Recent Weeks” table, but it only shows it for the past 5 weeks. If I make a major change in the site for SEO purposes, it takes around a month for it to take affect. By that time all the previous traffic data for the weeks is not accessible, so I have nothing to compare the post-change traffic to.
Has anyone found a way to get this table to display information for more than just the last 5 weeks?
-
velocityfactor, try the Summary Tables link near the bottom-right of the main Views graph.
-
If you mean the Recent Weeks table there, just click any day there and you’ll notice the date is part of the URL.
Just replace that date with any desired date to view stats for the desired day.
-
Yea, I meant the “Recent Weeks” table. I know about the clicking on individual dates. What I mean is, I would like to see the entire table as it is, but see it go back further than just 5 weeks. Is there any way to set how far back it shows. For example, if I want to see the past 3 months in a table like that, is that possible?
-
-
Yea, I understand, but I am not trying to view stats for an individual day.
I want to see that whole table with all the days laid out like it is now, just with more days going back further than only 5 weeks.

@velocityfactor
See > http://www.quantcast.com/velocityfactor.wordpress.com@giniadmin
Then you can hire a web host and set up your own self-hosted WordPress.org install and import your content into it. -
@timethief
I have a self hosted wordpress blog and google analytics still can’t be used. -
@katsmeoww
See here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/
Note also that the correct support forum for those who have self-hosted software installs form WordPress>ORG is here http://wordpress.ORG/support/ -
i would just like to plus one the whole we need GA in addition to WP stats call. If you a buying advertising not having GA is basically like having blinders on and completely destroys the advantage of digital versus traditional advertising.
If you do not support GA, do you at least have any way to plugin and track SEM/advertising campaigns that maybe i’m unaware of?
I’ve just started recommending wordpress.com as opposed to self hosted WP to certain business clients because of the value it offers being part of the greater network but this limitation may cause me to have stop doing that.
