Google Analytics Wanted. Vote for it

I wouldn’t go in to cross questions and all but I am surprised to see so many negative comments about Google Analytics.

  • Unknown's avatar

I am also pretty much sure that WordPress wouldn’t allow us to use Google Analytics but without this poll I would have not known, what people have to say about Google Analytics.

    @diamondpot
I’m pretty happy between wp stats (with keywords) and statcounter (with country and actually os much info it makes me uncomfortable). Goals might be something that only google offers but those don’t make sense to me as a blogger anyway.
And your point of “be an analytics expert”, I don’t get. Where is that an advantage of google analytics?

I have Google Analytics on a blogspot blog and I love it. I would switch all my other blogs to WordPress if using GA was possible. It’s great to be able to cut through the data.

I desperately want Google Analytics!!! Please WordPress, please!

  • Unknown's avatar

I definitely want Google Analytics. I would love to be able to track my visitors better. And I can’t believe anyone would vote no. Its free, useful and completely safe. Why would anyone vote noe.

    Yes.

    @scaredshitlesssoftball
There are resticted codes we cannot use at WordPress.com and Staff have already stated in support documentation in the stats sevtion that we cannot have Google Analytics.
We have a good in house stats program dreived from Google Analattics.
We can also use several free visitors tracking systems on our blogs.

“That’s a false positive. Google Analytics is safe (otherwise Google wouldn’t offer it).”

Might be, but I remember that every time we had Google’s toolbar on our last computer, I started getting porno pop-up ads. Ironically, a Google Search to see if the toolbar was the problem came up with several sites accusing it of being adware.

Mark me down for a “yes”…I want Google Analytics

Lately I’m feeling quite limited by the capabilities of wordpress.com and debating about switching over to blogger. I really don’t want to. Please give me a reason to stay with wordpress!

Well lots of discussions going here but I thought that adding GA will make our WordPress more better as we bloggers will be able to know about our readers more better.

I know that WP staff have stated that GA cant be added but if they allow us to put the
UA-1234567-1 of Analytics like they allow us to put Google verification meta tag. Will it be too tough for WP programmers or developers..

I love WP and so thought that Google Analytics will be another feather in our hat though I agree that we should not demand too much from free platforms. :P

    Thanks
    Take care all of you

    @ designdumpster

    Hi,
Nice to see you here and thanks as you also like GA.
Well I just wanted to say I also used blogger before using WP but blogger offers us no category like WP . Also I don’t like bloggers internal code structure. Its full of 1000’s of W3C validation error though you can use adsense in blogger and earn a bit.

WP doesn’t allows us to use JS and ads but its structure is neat and clean and more SEO friendsly than blogger. Lately some nice templates have also been launched for free WP.

Both blogger and WP have some merits and demerits but atleast they are allowing us to create blogs for free….thanks to that.

Anyway take care and thumbs up to your effort for Congo.
    God bless

Sacredpath: “I’m not so sure on the “accurate” thing. In my testing and comparison over several months on my self-hosted blog, I saw no more accuracy than any other service. All of them have days when they would report high or low hits while the others reported the opposite.

Accuracy of GA is no better than any other online stat service and they all require sending info back and forth over the internet. They are all subject to server (host or stat service), internet and connection problems.

I now look at my stats at the end of each month. If they are up, that’s nice. If they are down, that is fine too. “

Intriguing that some people want more statistical data in addition to Wpress’s statistical summaries and User hit widgets on their open blog pages. Knowing data on geographic user patterns might be useful.

The only reason I would want Google Analytics is to sound current/informed along with my colleagues. But I have the wp-data for my own understanding and use.

If some people wanting GA aren’t those who use blogging to make money, then could GA data (in addition to Wpress data) be for psychological reassurance that all their time invested in blog writing and posting, is worthwhile?

We are all human, after all– we want our existence in the universe validated, even if validation in the virtual universe, is enough people reading or glancing at our blog. (which is why I’m not posting daily unless my heart is in the blog post.)

I noticed that we now have Akismet stats. I wonder what these spam stats worth for the low-traffic bloggers? I mean, why spend energies on getting stats out of spam queue when people are looking for more extensive traffic stats for the blog and the audience itself?

I’d vote for extending the WP.com stats adding country/city locations and live traffic widget for the bloggers (I do not like live traffic widget for the visitors, certainly not the landing country/city identification via IP. I think it is too invasive and worthless). WordPress.com stats are fine but they can use little more extended data.

    Por favor! Google Analytics!!!!!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

I vote yes for google analytics it is a great tool and it could only help word press.

  • Unknown's avatar

    NO Google Analytics

  • Unknown's avatar

Is Google taking over the world? If WP allow Google Analytics then i for one will leave. I have Statcounter and Sitemeter and that is all the info anyone would really need. WordPress is THE best blogging site, so don’t make them ruin it. If anyone wants Google Analytics then they should be blogging at Blogger, not here.

Every breath you take, every click you make, are belong to google.

You think google is doing you a favor making GA so you can keep track of your hits? What do you think they do with all the data they collect on who clicks on what and such on your blog? They feed it into their ad machines so they can serve up more adsense nonsense and make is so irresistible that no one can help but click on it.

Don’t be a tool of “the man.”

Did I miss a memo or something?

WordPress.com already runs Google Analytics on our blogs and since all our blogs are subdomains of WordPress.com that means we can’t use it independently on our blogs. It’s the same reason we can’t use Adsense.

    Has something changed?

  • Unknown's avatar

A while ago someone from staff said they do not use it for any of the stats stuff here and didn’t elaborate, but I suspect if it is used anymore, it is only for tracking the adsense they run “occasionally” on our blogs.
