google apps says my domain has already been registered
-
Domain Name:Edition:Affected Username/s:Issue Description: digitaldevotee.com
Steps to Reproduce (if applicable):
I purchased digitaldevotee.com through wordpress and have verified that through Google Webmaster Tools and added the CNAME to my DNS. I now want to set up an email address with that domain name with Google Apps to use GoogleMail. However, when I try to apply for Google Apps I get the message: ‘This domain has already been registered with Google Apps. Please contact your domain administrator for instructions on using Google Apps with this domain.’I have no other employees who could have done this. What can I do next?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello there,
I have flagged this thread for Staff attention. Please be patient while waiting. -
Were you following this guide to claim your domain with Google?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/
-
thanks both – yup was following that guide and when you go to the google app page the first step is to claim the domain – which i own and have already verified at google webmaster tools but for some reason isn’t available to me here (see above)
-
In that case, I’d check with Google. It sounds like they have your domain tied to a different account.
-
i think it was previously but i am the current owner of the domain.
When I try to reset the admin password without the secondary email I get this message from Google (http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=33561#domainverify):
Please contact your domain administrator to help you access your username or reset your password.
It seems everyone leads in cirlces…
-
Unfortunately, the problem being that you’re the domain administrator by their definition.
The whole system is really set up for companies with multiple users under the same domain.
You’ll need to contact them directly about this.
-
OIC, well they aren’t so good at getting in direct contact! but there are some fans offering suggestions over at their forum…fingers crossed!
-
I might have figured it out…Now have something like this in my DNS – will that work?
MX 5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
MX 10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
MX 10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.COM.
TXT v=spf1 include:aspmx.googlemail.com ~all
CNAME google3_____7e1a3fa57 google.com.
CNAME mail.digitaldevotee.com ghs.google.com. -
-
thanks – still hasn’t changed my DNS record after about 24 hours but i guess it sometimes takes longer? still shows
mail.digitaldevotee.com. CNAME IN 14400 digitaldevotee.com. -
-
I have heard of this problem happening if you register a domain that someone owned before then relinquished. If they registered with google apps you have to contact google to be able to re-register
-
thanks all. still not pointing to google though. any advice on the DNS modifications based on what I showed above?
-
Where are you adding the DNS entries? A lot of people don’t realise that once you have pointed your nameservers to WordPress you have to do this in the WordPress console, the settings in your domain registrars console won’t work.
-
hiya – i did everything in wordpress > domains > edit DNS. still not pointing to Google so something wrong but really can’t guess what! creating business problems for me:(
