Google Authorship for WordPress Bloggers

Google is searching for original content blogs and will add your gravatar to your posts. I set up a Google Profile but does WordPress have a simple way to qualify my blog for Google’s Authorship? So many of the suggestions are TOO confusing. Even the 3-step process is over my head. I can’t get any of them to work. Google says an email address connected directly to the blog would be easiest. Does WordPress have that option or any other options to get Google’s Authorship designation? Thanks for any help.

    Hi there,

The easiest way to do this is through the steps outlined here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/

Can you give those a try and let me know if you get stuck?

    Hi Jeremey,
My blog is already linked to my Google + account. All of my posts are automatically published there. I’m trying to qualify for Google Authorship which automatically publishes my picture along with my posts, indicating that I am the author of the content and that it is not a reblog or copy and paste site.
The information I’ve read about attaining this designation requires copying and pasting code into my site. That’s where my problems begin.

    Howdy!

You’re correct – traditionally, this requires copying and pasting a code into your site. However, we’ve built it right into WordPress.com. The feature you’re referring to is Publicize, which pushes your new posts to Google Plus. However, we also offer Google Plus authorship as described here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/#connect-your-google-profile

That will explain how you can connect your Google Plus profile to your account. It will then add authorship markup to all of your posts indicating that you are in fact the author. After you connect your Google Plus profile, you can test the authorship of a post by inserting the URL into this testing tool:

Let me know if you need anything else!

    Hi Jeremey,
I put in a recent post’s URL and it said under “Authorship Testing Results” in red, “Authorship is not working for this webpage.” It then goes on to say, “Authorship can be explicitly established via two primary methods: email verification or rel=author markup.” WordPress does not offer an email connected to blogs and the “rel=author markup” with copy and pasting code into my blog is where I got stumped last time.

    Howdy!

I believe the issue here is that there are no links from your Google + profile to your blog. You can read this on the testing tool under “Authorship rel=author Markup”:

First rel=author link from webpage: https://plus.google.com/115466881980005999884
Link (direct or indirect) from website to Google+ profile: Yes
Public contributor-to link from Google+ profile to kqduane.com: No

So, it looks like it’s properly registering the rel=author markup. However, you’ll need to add a “Public contributor-to link from Google+ profile”. Here are instructions to do that from Google:

    1. Edit the Contributor To section.
    2. In the dialog that appears, click Add custom link, and then enter the website URL.
    3. If you want, click the drop-down list to specify who can see the link.
    4. Click Save.

The instructions can be found here under “Option 2”:

Can you give that a try?
