Google button on the top rotating menu in the theme "Bold News?"
-
I am using the theme Bold News and already love the buttons I have for people to follow the blog on FB, Twitter, StumbleUpon, etc.
Now I also want to include a small square button up on the top rotating menu for Google+. I already have a Google+ share box at the end of each post; now I want one at the very top of my blog.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Marisa, do you mean where it says “Follow #SavvyCitiZen at:”? Your theme does not have an option to add a Google+ box there, but it might be possible to do so with a Text Widget in your sidebar (similar to like you did with the “Worldette” box). Would that work for you?

Hi Richard,
Thanks for replying. So far this isn’t working for me. Your suggestion made sense, but every time I paste the “codes” that I copied from the Google help site, all the html shows up on the homepage of my blog, and no button.
I appreciate your help.

Hi Marisa,
If the code includes an iframe, then you won’t be able to include it in your widget, for security reasons. You can see what kind of code is allowed, here:
Can you point me to the site from which you are getting the code? I’ll have a look at it. Thanks!

Hi Richard,
I have been trying from this page:
https://developers.google.com/+/plugins/+1button/
What do you think?
Thanks again so much for your help!

I’m sorry Marisa, but that’s javascript, and we don’t allow javascript either.
There is an alternative that other users came up with that you can try if you’d like, for a static button:

Also, you can include a G+ button on every post, from your sharing settings:
I hope that helps. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Hi Richard,
Your assistance has been incredible thus far– I am making progress.
I have been fiddling around and have come up with the following two widgets:
However, they are just images now (not clickable).
I haven’t been able to figure out where to paste in the numbers from my Google+ profile. 104503788046333730591
Once I figure out which part of the code to paste that in to, I think I will be set.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks again!

Hi!
I modified your code a bit, as per this comment; basically, I wrapped your images in a link. I tried both of them, and they work, they bring my to your profile.
Hope that’s satisfactory for you!

Thanks Richard. That’s incredible– that’s exactly what I wanted!
Thank you oh so much.
Marisa
