Google Cache of my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I started a private blog and accidentally forgot to opt-out of the checkbox that allows google to crawl my blog. I made a couple of posts before I realized and Google now has a cache of my posts. I made the blog private and now even deleted the blog altogether, but I can’t get rid of the Google Cache. Anybody have any ideas? Google says you can paste in a snippet of code to your site to have it removed, but as far as I can tell, you can’t do that in wordpress… and I deleted the blog anyway.

    Thoughts? Thanks so much!

Through Google webmaster tools you can request the removal of specific URL’s from their databases.

I want to remove Google cached copies of my blog too, however how can I do this if I cannot edit the HTML of my page?

    Thanks.

First off we need a link to your blog, and what do you mean you need access to the HTML to remove cached copies of your blog? The HTML on your blog has nothing to do with Google.

    Hi,

The address of my blog is http://zhangjy.wordpress.com/

    The instruction page says this:

“To removed cached versions of a page from Google’s index and prevent Google from caching the page in the future, you must add a noarchive meta tag to that page. The next time we crawl that site, we’ll see the tag and remove the page.

To prevent all search engines from showing a “Cached” link for your site, place this tag in the <HEAD> section of your page:

    <meta name=”robots” content=”noarchive”>”

I assumed that in order to insert that into the head section of the page, you needed to have access to the HTML of the page?

    Thanks for the help btw.

This you cannot do with wordpress.com, since we do not have access to the underlying HTML. Sorry. Too late now. Once it’s cached, it’s cached. However, as long as you keep it private in your Settings > Privacy, Google will eventually stop indexing it.

There used to be a place where you could just enter the URL you wanted removed, but I cannot find it now.

I just checked. You still can, but you need to sign up for Webmaster Tools first, which in this case would mean first registering and verifying your blog, and then requesting it to be deleted, after you have set it to Private, so that it generates a 404 error. It seems easier to just leave it private and wait for Google to not find it anymore..
