Google Calendar Embed
-
Why are my word press blog pages not properly translating the embed for Google calendar?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Have you followed the instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-calendar/
On what page is the calendar embedded?
-
I did follow those instructions.
The Calendar is embedded on the following page:
https://faithgracesaltlight.wordpress.com/discernment-plan/discernment-calendar/ -
When pasting the embed code you copied from your Google calendar “Embed this Calendar” to the Page or Post Editor, please make sure you are pasting it into the Text tab of the Editor and not the Visual tab.
After saving the Page, you should see the Google iframe embed turn into a googleapps shortcode.
If you created the page in the New Dashboard, please try in the Editor in the WP Admin dashboard.
If it still doesn’t work for you, please come back here and tell us what browser and version you are using. http://supportdetails.com/
-
I did paste the code into the text tab and have been using the WP admin dashboard.
I tried it in Google Chrome v. 46.0.2490.71, FireFox v. 41.0.2, Opera v. 31.0, and Internet Explorer 11.0.9600.18059.

Looking at the source code of your Discernment Calendar page, it looks like you’ve only inserted the link portion of the code.
You do need to copy and paste the entire code given, including the iframe portion, in order for the WPcom software to recognize and convert it into a googleapps shortcode. https://i1.wp.com/en.support.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/calendar_details.png
Regardless, I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance. They are away until tomorrow but looking in to the forums from time to time. Please be patient because they have a large backlog waiting for them.

Hi Judith –
As @justjennifer notes, you’ll need to paste the entire code, including the iframe tags. The image linked there shows it nicely. Paste that into the text/html tab of the post and then publish.
Let us know of your progress. :)

Curiouser and curiouser!
I copied and pasted the google iframe embed code into the Text tab of the Page Editor, saved the page and watched the iframe turn into a googleapps shortcode. (temporary page)
If you look on the Text tab of your calendar, is there any other code anywhere on the same line as the code?

So, even though I pasted the iframe code, now that i look back at the html, it has switched into just an href link. Is there some reason why wordpress (or maybe my theme Hemingway Rewritten) would disallow a calendar embed?
-
@ miriamrmartin I switched my test site to Hemingway Rewritten, added a new page and pasted the iframe code again and got a calendar.
Here’s what I pasted:
<iframe src="https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=a8c.com_9j5vtq4c37lc5t5r5c96p0699c%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Asia/Jerusalem" style="border: 0" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>and here’s what I got after saving:
[googleapps domain="www" dir="calendar/embed" query="src=a8c.com_9j5vtq4c37lc5t5r5c96p0699c%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=Asia/Jerusalem" width="800" height="600" /]What browser/version are you using and what OS? http://supportdetails.com/

Thanks for adding that information.
I’ve tagged this for Staff attention again because of what @rachelmcr (a Happiness Engineer) mentioned in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/google-calendar-not-showing-up?replies=18#post-2483736
Let’s be patient for Staff to reply here.

Looks like the other thread user needed to add brackets. Just FYI, I tried that for me and it didn’t work. Seems like my big issue is that my iframe code is transformed to a link when I update the page. Weird!
-
Just to chime in as well, my code is just not shortening at all. Checked compatibility on the browser so the problem is not there. I paste the code, hit save or preview or publish and the code stays the same.
-
@miriamrmartin – the brackets should automatically be added to the shortcode when the iframe code from Google is changed on saving. You don’t have to do this. That is why I believe there is something awry for some users with the conversion process.
@district39dems – Sorry if I am stating the obvious, but once the Google iframe embed has changed to a link after saving and not converted to the shortcode embed, you would have to re-paste the entire original iframe code from Google calendar.
Looking at your site, I don’t find a Google calendar. I do see an Upcoming Events widget in the sidebar, but that is a different function using the iCalendar feed. Not the same as the Google Calendar embed. If that is what your question is about, please open a separate thread to get your issue the attention it deserves. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1

Hi folks. Thanks for your great troubleshooting. We’re investigating on this end, too, and will let you know as soon as we have more info. Cheers!
