Google Calendar not adding

I am trying to embed a Google Calendar. The instructions under the Shortcodes section on this site say that once we save the page with the code on it, that WordPress automatically edits the code into the shortcode. However, this is not happening. Nothing changes in the code and the calendar does not show. Does anyone know what steps I can take to trouble shoot this? Could it be a problem with WordPress? I just downloaded the latest version as of the first of this month.
