Google Calendar Not Showing Up
-
I have been using the Google calendar embedded on one of my pages for 18 months. I have followed always the steps outlined by WordPress.
Today, after making changes to the calendar, I copied the code as usual; but when pasted onto my page, and updated, it did not appear. Only the link to the calendar showed up.
This is the WordPress page where the calendar is meant to appear.
What is the sudden problem? How can it be corrected? There is urgency for correcting the problem because this is a business page.
Thanks.

Please make sure you are following the steps in this article to embed your Google Calendar: https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-calendar/

Thanks for the response.
As I stated at the start of my explanation, I have been following the steps outlined on the WordPress website for 18 months without a problem. That is until today. I did follow these steps, as usual, but I cannot get the calendar to appear, only the link shows up.

Hi there,
Please try this shortcode that was used on your site before:
[googleapps domain="www" dir="calendar/embed" query="src=walkaboutnewyork%40gmail.com&ctz=America/New_York" width="800" height="600" /]You can paste that in place of the link that is on the page now. (In the future, when you make changes to this calendar, you don’t need to re-paste the calendar’s code — the embedded calendar will update automatically with the changes you make to the Google calendar.)

Hi Happiness Engineer,
I pasted in the short code you supplied. It did not work to make the calendar appear on the page. Instead the code appeared. I would like to include a screen capture; but I do not see a way to do that.
I did not know about the automatic updating. If I can ever get the calendar to appear again, I will remember that.
For now, how can the calendar re-appear?

Hi there,
You will only see that code in the editor, but after you save your changes and visit the page you will see the Google calendar embedded there.
Please try saving that code on the page, and if it doesn’t work for you please let me know so I can take a look at it and see what is happening.
-
I have pasted it on the page.
ONLY the code appears, not the calendar, when I “Preview Changes” for the page.
I do not want to update the page with that code in place, because my customers are looking at the page.
-
Thank you for describing those details. To help me understand what’s happening, please make a screenshot of what you see in the editor and when you preview the page. You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like imgur.

WordPress.com staff can view media in your media library, or you can upload them to another site like imgur and share a link. That way I can take a look at the screenshots to see exactly what is happening on the site when you paste the code there.

I have uploaded four screen captures.
1 & 2 show code copied & pasted from Google Calendars
3 & 4 show short code you provided.
You must have access to my photo library! Yes?
-
Thanks for those screenshots! In 3 & 4 I see you pasted in this code:
googleapps domain="www" dir="calendar/embed" query="src=walkaboutnewyork%40gmail.com&ctz=America/New_York" width="800" height="600" /Please paste in all of this code, including the square brackets at the beginning and end:
[googleapps domain="www" dir="calendar/embed" query="src=walkaboutnewyork%40gmail.com&ctz=America/New_York" width="800" height="600" /]Those square brackets tell WordPress.com that it is a shortcode that needs to be turned into the embedded calendar.
-
BINGO!
That is the solution. MANY thanks.
I shall remember the bit about the calendar updating automatically. There is no need for me re-paste the code. Thanks for that too!
-
I’m also having difficulty getting the Google Calendar to embed in my site. I create a new page and copy/paste the embed code from Google Calendar to the HTML tab of the WP.com site. All that shows up on the page after publishing is a link to my calendar. WP is not converting the embed code to short code. How do I generate the short code for this to work on my WP site?
-
@rachelmcr – more users with the same problem here, which I’ve modlooked And now I wonder if that closing bracket isn’t getting stripped out somehow.
