Google Chrome and Formating Errors
-
So I downloaded Google Chrome about a week ago to help upload a post that doesn’t seem to format correctly when I was using Internet Explorer (basically IE was messing up the format, breaking paragraphs apart and moving things around). When I downloaded Chrome, everything got much better. However, since the last post before the current one, I’ve noticed that a few things.
1) I couldn’t copy from an Word processor (I’m using Open Office) like I could when I had IE. I don’t mean using the button to copy plain text or from word. I mean a direct copy and paste. Chrome isn’t letting me do this causing me to open IE to paste in that window, copy it again and repaste it Chrome. I would use the buttons but they don’t transfer italics, bold, or underline and I really don’t want to spend the time redoing all that work. Is there a way to directly copy and paste?
2) The current post I’m trying to post up is starting to do ‘weird’ things. For some reason, after I upload the post (or post the post), the formating gets all messed up. The color does change, and previously, it would automatically change to a gray color. Then I noticed that the text size from one paragraph to another changes. It even happens in the middle of one. The previous post I did didn’t do this and I just noticed it in this one. Also, IE was doing this as well. It’s getting a little impossible to fix it. Any ideas?

No I’m sorry but there isn’t. Have you considered using windowslivewriter? It’s free, very easy to use, and you can compose and format in it, and publish directly to your blog from it. http://download.live.com/writer

TT, if I follow what you’re saying there, I won’t have trouble formatting when using Chrome browser. I run Linux and use Chromium almost exclusively. Or does it matter which browser were using so long as we’re using wordpress.com dashboard for posting?
Thanks! -

Copying and pasting from any word processor will get you in trouble since word processors were not designed for the web, they were designed for print media. They make incredibly messy, and incorrect code and it messes up wordpress – or any website for that matter.
If you have to use open office, then you have to use the “paste as plain text” icon in the bottom toolbar in the visual editor, which will strip out any formatting and bad code. You will then have to format things directly in the wordpress online editor.
The solution – the best solution – is to use a blog editor like Timethief recommends. You can format everything in the editor and then upload it directly from that program without having to copy and paste. It will make your life so much easier, and Windows Live Writer creates solid, valid code, so you won’t have any surprises once it hits your blog.

BTW, staff confirmed a while back that because MS Word and Open Office and such were making such a mess of things and causing so many issues when people copied and pasted, that they now automatically strip out all the offending code that comes in when you paste from those programs.
