Google Chrome not Responding

  • Unknown's avatar

Beginning several days ago when attempting to add an image from my media library a message pops up saying “Chrome not responding.”

This only occurs using WordPress and not when using Crome outside of WordPress. I have cleared my Cache several times and confirmed that my Chrome Version is current.

My WordPress has “Good” Health. So I am seeking advice on how to resolve this. Thank you

  • Hi there, does any similar issue occur if you test in a different browser than Google Chrome? Alternatively, does it also occur if you use an ‘incognito’ window in Chrome? For reference, this is the information regarding the incognito function:

    Thank you for your response.
1, The issue occurs when using either Chrome or Edge Browsers.
    2. The issue also occurs when using Chrome Incognito.

  • Ok, thanks. Would you recall if any plugin on your site was recently added or updated? I understand you have recently chatted to us regarding this too.

We have also sent you an email regarding this; please do check your spam folder if it doesn’t appear in your inbox.

I did view the recording of the link at: https://d.pr/v/2kxjrB.

I do not doubt the validity of the test results but sadly as recently as this morning the issue remains.

I have not tried any other browsers than Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.  I had no idea that they each were based on the same framework.

I have not tried Firefox I have never used it before.

I should not like to be required to abandon Google Chrome as it would be much preferable to enable the capacity to continue using Google Chrome absent the “Not Responding” nuisance.

On my WordPress site I have not recently manually updated any plugins.  Should I?

On my Chrome Browser I have updated “Extensions” which I normally do when “Clearing Browser Cache.”

I have contacted WordPress Chat twice. The issue appeared a few days prior to my first contact.

I would guess the issue began circa 3 weeks ago.

How do you wish me to proceed.

    Thank you

  • Hi there,

Correct, that is not common knowledge, but may be one reason why there is an issue here.

Are you willing to install Firefox so that you can test and see if it has a different outcome? The intent here is not to get you to switch to a different browser, but to see if the issue is with Chrome/Edge, or with your computer.

Because we are not able to replicate this issue on our end (no matter what we do the media library functions correctly) we need your help in testing and narrowing things down for us. :)

With that in mind, please be so kind as to install Firefox temporarily and see if you are able to have a successful result with your site. Does it work where Chrome does not, or do you have the same issue?

Also, out of curiosity, do you have a different device you can test? A different computer or even your smartphone or tablet? If you go to wordpress.com in the browser of that other device and log into your account there, do you have any luck? E.g. is the issue only on your computer and not on another device?

    Thanks for the additional info!

Late yesterday it occurred to me that one cure to “Chrome Browser Not Responding” might be to Uninstall and Reinstall Chrome Browser.

Since then the issue has not reared its ugly head but I would like to give it 2-3 days to make certain it is resolved.

I did already contact priority support twice.

The first time I was given sensible advice to clear my Browsing Data but sadly that did not work.

I then contacted priority support again and was given the not so sensible advice that to resolve the issue I should delete the “Classic Editor” plug in and use “Block Editor” instead.

For several reason this did not seem to be a plausible cause/cure.

So after hearing from other how fine and helpful this site was in assisting WordPress users and particularly for those like myself who are lacking in computer literacy.

I am grateful for the prompt, professional and courteous assistance I have found here.

    Thank you

  • I’m glad to hear that reinstalling has helped with the issue. Since we are using Chrome to test on our end but not seeing this issue, our thought was that it was something specific to your computer, and this may have finally addressed it.

If you need further assistance don’t hesitate to ask, thanks!
