Google Complains About To Many Links

  • Unknown's avatar

One of the companies I provided a link to, Planswift, asked me to remove it because Google told them the site had to many links back to Planswift . Even though I only have one link to Planswift on the blog, it seems that WordPress software makes it look like there are a whole lot of links to Planswift (maybe one for each blog post?). Google sees this as some kind of scam that is against their policies.

Is there a way to include a link that Google will approve of?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I had a similar issue and after a fruitless back and forth exchange due to the duplication of posts appearing on category, archives and tags pages, which we cannot block using robot txt, I just gave up and deleted the URL. Maybe Staff have a better answer than mine so I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

    Hi there,

I’m afraid there isn’t currently any way to change that quirk of architecture. It should also be noted however that in such cases, a complaint usually comes from Google because there are a multitude of links from a variety of sites (so other WordPress.com blogs, for example, linking to the same site). So this would not just be because of you.

If you have been asked to remove the URL, it would definitely be the polite thing to do to just remove it. Perhaps just refer to the company without hyperlinking to it?

Thanks amightywp. I have removed all of the links on my blog. Am I right that there is one link for each post? To a laymen like my it seems that each post can be viewed as a separate page, with the right column intact, including links.

If the link was in your sidebar, I’m honestly not entirely sure how Google would count those links. It’s entirely possible that those would be counted for each page or post load. Google keeps their search parameters pretty close to their vests, so saying anything “for certain” about how Google does anything is impossible sadly. :(
