Google crawl 404 error even though pages are live

Recently, I was toying around with my blog and switched themes. After I did. I noticed the 404 errors in Google Search Console spiked–and it’s telling me that every page of my site, including the home page, was not found (delivering a 404 error). But they’re all live and working fine when I pull them up.
The errors have resulted in a huge dip in indexed pages, and it’s affected SEO dramatically in a matter of 2 weeks, so I know it’s a big problem.
A couple days ago I deleted the theme thinking that might be the problem, and switched to a free theme available via WP, but the issue persists. Any ideas??

What is the exact URL starting with http:// of the site you refer to please?
To save you time you can type the actual URL of the site you are referring to into http://whoishostingthis.com to determine who hosts the site so you know where to post for support.
We provide support only for sites hosted on WordPress.COM servers. You could be posting to the wrong support forum. To be clear we do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software, or for WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to WordPress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites WordPress.COM account page.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Hi there,
Did you perhaps also change the permalink structure on your site? Or could the theme have done that automatically? In that case search engines will need to re-index all content on your site at the new permalinks, which can take several weeks.
For more help with this, please post in the self-hosted WordPress forums as @timethief suggested above, as we’re not able to help with this in the WordPress.com forums.
