Google Docs add-on for WordPress.com is not working

When I try to save my doc to a WP site, I get this message: ‘TypeError: element.getText is not a function.’ Only the title of the doc makes it over.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

Are you able to confirm the URL of the website that you need assistance with please?

Also, are you looking to upload a doc to the media library?

Yes, that is the correct link, but the same thing happens to all my sites. The problem occurs when I in Google Docs and try to use the WP extension pop-up window. I am trying to upload posts into my sites.

  • Hi there,

Can you share a link to the site you are having this issue with? You mentioned having this issue with several sites but I just want to confirm that I am looking in the right spot here.

Also, just to confirm, it sounds like you are trying to publish posts to your WordPress.com site from Google Docs using the WordPress.com Add-on for Google Docs. Is that right?

Could you tell us a bit more about where exactly you are seeing this error? Is it after you try publishing a post from Google Docs to WordPress.com?

If you could, please share with us a screenshot of the issue you are seeing.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Screen shots below. All that comes out on the site is the name of the Doc, none of the body of text. Thanks

  • Thanks for the screenshot! I haven’t been able to replicate this myself when I tested the Google Docs add-on now; but I did only test using a simple line of text, and a photo.

I see that your screenshot shows itself as a copy of a previous blog post; is there an original version of this post that we could check the contents of, to see if there’s anything in particular which might be causing this error for you?

I think it’s the footnotes I put into my Doc! I deleted them and tried again, and it now seems to work! Thanks so much for steering me to something in that particular doc. After getting your message, I tested several other Docs, and those worked. Then I looked at the non-text characters of the problem one and saw that I had two footnotes and then deleted them. So I guess I need to leave out footnotes if I want to use the extension. I wonder if that’s something that you have encountered before. Anyway, thanks so much to the both of you for your help!

  • Thank you so much sharing the solution on this @germie56 !
