I just want to make sure that I am on the right path . Purchased a Google domain name and need a host for and direct booking links on the site to create Google Hotel Center Account.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

  • Hi there, I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re aiming to do.

You mentioned that you have a domain name you purchased from Google, and now you’re in need of a host- were you planning to set up a site where people can make accommodation bookings which then link back to a “Hotel Center” account?

If so, do you know what kind of connection you’d need to make between your future site, and your Hotel Center account?

I apologize . I am unable to respond with sufficient clarify in this chat box without encountering a display issue likely triggered by the number of characters needed to clarify.

  • Hrmm. That’s odd. We routinely see messages that are paragraphs long. I would try turning off any browser extensions or ad blockers that you might have enabled, and see if that makes a difference.

We want to help you get set up successfully and learning more about the project is a big part of being able to streamline your experience.

    Hi,

So perhaps part of the problem was starting this process (site building and this conversation) on my mobile. I am now working on my Chromebook.

As part of my purchase of a Google domain for a property to be onboarded with Google’s Hotel Center Account, I was offered a short list of site builders/hosting options for my website. I chose WordPress powered by Bluehost primarily because of a 30-day free trial for, as far as I can tell, hosting services and access to tools I could use to build the site.

Since I was, at the time, working from my mobile device, I downloaded the Bluehost Guide and two apps each calling themselves WordPress with identical icons except for an inverted blue-on-white / white -on-blue color design.

The link from Google Domains took me to the Bluehost site: mybluehost.com that holds the domain name and unpublished website of the same name. Do I build the website using Bluehost or WordPress? And is the WordPress hosted by Bluehost .org or .com? Am I even at the correct forum now to get answers regarding my business site/domain or have I inadvertently created accounts with the same domain/site information across multiple platforms and how should I resolve this? My primary goal is to be on the correct platform to build the hotel website using the available tools within the 30-day trial period. As you can see, I am completely lost at the very beginning of the process and am trying to get answers from the correct sources (i.e., not a Sales department for WordPress.org, WordPress.com, Bluehost more interested in selling me more products than guiding me to the resources and directions that will allow me to create and publish my site under the terms to which I intended by following the Google Domains partner link). Thanks for any clarification.

  • Hey there,

Ok thank you for that background.

So we need rewind a little bit and I’m confident the forthcoming will fill any gaps…

There are two types of WordPress.

    1. WordPress.com, which is who you’re talking to now, and WordPress.com is a managed hosting platform where you can build a WordPress site. This is what we have to offer here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

    2. WordPress.org, this is where the free, open source software of WordPress can be downloaded and installed onto a server. Also known as self-hosted WordPress.

The two are completely separate entities, and the differences of which can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Everyone outside of WordPress.com, will be using self-hosted WordPress.

I suspect, Google and Bluehost most likely have a deal whereby they’re selling each other’s services (domain + hosting and vice versa), but this would be for them to confirm.

It sounds like you have a site with Bluehost currently.

What are you looking to build exactly? I’m wondering if there’s a way to simplify things for you going forward… (or just clear up any confusion.)
