Google Group Button Problem

Hello – I’m trying to add the google groups button to my site for a mailing list. Google groups provides some html code you can copy and paste. Pasting works fine, but after you save it, wp erases some of the code and the result is the button does not function properly (http://rideformcbride.wordpress.com/sign-up/). There is no way to enter an email address.
One other thread noted you could provide a link to google docs or something like that as a fix, but I have no idea what means – no further instructions were given. Alternatively, if there is some better way to put a mailing list signup on the blog please let me know. I do not simply want to list a link to the google group, since I’m going to have a lot of computer-illiterate people on the site and I think google groups is way too confusing to do a sign-up there for them (or it has been so far at least).

If they are WordPress.COM users, there will be a simple sign up button. If they are not WP.com users, there’s a box to enter an e-mail address and no need to create a username. More details here:

Thanks. It’s a static page and not a blog so that won’t work. I think I can use a subscribe email address instead. The button just looks nicer and is clearer.
