Google image search opens the Category rather than the post itself.

I run a blog of old political/election ephemera. I categorise by Political Party and some other things such as constituency.
On google image search sometimes an image will open above the correct post, but other times the image will open above the category the post is in.an example
on Google image search search for ‘independent fianna fail election’click on The second result (five men on a leaflet with green above their images,and orange below).
The post that appears below the image is the most recently added to the category rather than the post itself.
Yet the results beside it open in the correct post.It thoought it may be to do with the image being hosted externally, but some posts with images hosted externally show up as themselves rather than their categories? (Picasa)
any ideas?

It depends how many links there are to each. If your post has more incoming links than your category, it’ll outrank the category. Images can often have more googlejuice because they have all kinds of metadata like alt text, captions, etc, and sometimes are hotlinked as well and posted to external sites. Picasa and Photobucket and Flickr images are particularly prone to this.
