Google Index Showing Random Titles and Descriptions — Broken SEO Plugin
-
Hi WordPress community,
I’m having a weird issue with Google showing completely unrelated or outdated titles and meta descriptions for some of my site’s pages.
The website in question is: https://amtrakroutesmap.com/
What’s happening:
- When I search my site on Google, some indexed pages are showing either the homepage description or a mix of unrelated text from random sections
- The actual content on the pages is correct, and Yoast SEO is set up with the right title/meta for each page
- Some descriptions look like they were pulled from older blog drafts I deleted months ago
What I’ve tried:
- Re-submitted the sitemap in Google Search Console
- Inspected URLs and triggered reindexing
- Cleared cache (both browser + site-level)
- Updated Yoast plugin and re-saved meta for all key pages
Still no luck. I’m wondering:
- Could this be a theme-related issue? (I’m using a custom-built child theme based on Astra)
- Is there a known issue where SEO plugins like Yoast or Rank Math don’t override theme-level meta defaults?
- Can plugins conflict and inject fallback metadata without showing errors?
Here’s a page for reference that still shows weird results:

(The meta on-page is fine, but Google still pulls the wrong stuff.)Any ideas on how to fix this, or how long Google usually takes to update correct titles and snippets?
Appreciate any insight
