Google indexes Posts but not Pages.

I have selected ‘Allow search engines to index this site’. Am i missing something?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – Google will eventually index your pages. The best way to increase your site’s ranking in Google is to focus on traffic building. We have some more information about this here:

Thanks for the links. Not really interested in ranking, rather a simple indexing would be enough. I noticed the WordPress-generated sitemap has all the disposableideas pages listed, though none are found by Google.

Since your links mention it can take 4-6 weeks to get a page listed, I’ll check back in a couple of weeks (since i only started the website on July 4th).

More than a month has passed and only the About page has been indexed by Google (and only 1 additional page by Bing). I never saw this lag with a similar Drupal site I built and hosted separately. So something seems unusual about the WordPress online development process.

By-the-way, I’ve used the webmaster tools from both Google and Bing to register this site and its sitemap.

Nothing is being indexed at disposableideas.wordpress.com (i.e., not even the posts).

  • Hi there,

Unfortunately, site owners can’t control the frequency of search spider visits – it’s something that’s up to the search engines’ complex algorithms. New sites can take a while to be fully indexed. Your site is just over a month old, and that’s right in the 4-6 week target for being listed. Getting the whole site indexed can take longer. You might want to work on getting some inbound links from other quality sites, since that’s a factor search engines consider strongly when determining frequency of spidering. Good luck!

My blogs posts are updated in a day by both Bing and Google. These posts are only the first paragraph of the article. The pages containing the rest of the article are not being indexed. Any ‘spider’ would normally follow the links from a blog post to the next page.

My links are all of the format /?p=### … could this cause an issue since I have disposableideas.com hosted in a wordpress.com domain? Recall the disposableideas.wordpress.com URL is still not being indexed at all.

This is quite frustrating, since I never had this issue with my self-maintained Drupal site. My thinking was the WordPress online solution would be less work, but I’m beginning to have doubts.

    Hi there,

WordPress.com does not control how search engines choose to index a site.

How are you determining what Google and Bing are indexing, and how are you sure they are not capturing more than your first paragraph?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes I understand WordPress does not control how search engines choose to index a site. But in using the online WordPress facility I do not have access to .htaccess nor robots.txt (as least as far as I can tell). So I have little ability to direct the search engines to my pages and depend on WordPress Happiness Engineers for resolution.

    I search for site:disposableideas.com

    Hi again,

It’s true that you do not have access to these files if you host on WordPress.com.

It looks like you have a relatively new blog without a lot of content yet. Over time, assuming you continue to blog, you should see your search engine results improve as there is more content to be indexed.
