I’m interested in the answer as well, but couldn’t figure out how to subscribe to this without commenting. Sorry about the bump.

  • Hi! For sites hosted here on our services, that’s usually a “discourage search engines” setting, as outlined here. Any other noindex it’s picking up on is probably for some directory Google can’t access, let alone index. For example:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
    Disallow: /wp-login.php
    Disallow: /wp-signup.php
    Disallow: /press-this.php
    Disallow: /remote-login.php
    Disallow: /activate/
    Disallow: /cgi-bin/
    Disallow: /mshots/v1/
    Disallow: /next/
    Disallow: /public.api/

If you’re getting “noindex” issues with directories not included there, please send the full error you’re getting from Google, and we’ll do some investigating for you. Thanks!

I went and looked at my privacy settings and they are set correctly. What is odd is this is just one of my 999 blog posts. https://batgurrl.net/2015/05/24/soggy-baby-bird/. The privacy settings should cover all posts. And as you can see this is a 2015 article which is before blocks and is in the legacy format. Should still make no difference to Google. But then…????

Here is the email google sent me. I have run the fix it button and the second screen is what it says about why it failed. FYI – this is the second round of my trying to sort this out with Google. :)

Appreciate any help and Bookstooge (above comment) is looking for help too.

    Hi there!

Those emails/reports from Google Search Console can be cryptic. While we are not experts to help you with that, I searched on Google to see if the URL was indeed not indexed. As you can see below, that post does show up on Google.

As far as I know, if a URL is not indexed, it would not show up on Google Search results (regardless of what you type into the search box).

So I’m not fully sure if it’s okay to ignore that warning and it’ll go away on its own. I don’t see any issues on that particular post (or on your site) that would cause Google to noindex. But if the issue persists, you may want to contact Google support for help.

    Thanks!

Well isn’t that interesting. Thanx for doing what I will do in the future. I think I might actually send them a note on it this time since it is the 2nd time.

Also thanx for check behind the curtain for me. I was pretty sure I had things set up correctly.

    WordPress Rocks!! Thanx again
