Google Map in Sidebar
-
Is there any way of getting a Google Map in the sidebar. I have been able to update a blogspot blog so that I have a map in the sidebar that updates to show locations referring to the blog the person is reading (all data is stored off of the blog pages) but I can’t seem to find a way of doing it on WordPress, any hints?

You cannot place Google Maps in your sidebar, only in posts and pages. Please see:

I had tried searching for posts on Google Maps but when searching nothing sensible was returned!
I don’t understand why WordPress don’t make it possible for us to use the Google API, a static map doesn’t allow for us to mark a route or highlight points of interest, surely this would be classed as a useful widget.

I’ve now had one map sort of work, I followed the explanation as put up in the FAQ and put a map I created on google maps into a temporary page. In the editor the code I pasted in changed to the shortcode as described but when I viewed the result no map was displayed, just an empty box and when I clicked on the link it said that the page could not be found even though I am still able to see the map now. But things have now gotten worse, now when I paste the link code in to the page (using the visual editor) and click save WordPress doesn’t convert it over to the shortcode version, am I doing something really stupid!!!?
Ta.
