When I typed my question it was after a period of frustration. I have the feeling WordPress has more than one way of editing and it is often not very intuitive where things are hidden.
So I added Google photos, used it happily and the next time, the option could not be found.
I reinstalled it and now the same thing.
I also have other issues and they all are strange things that happen or not happen, and I feel I did the right thing but somehow the result is different.
The next block option seem to create issues if you have a long piece of text where you want to add photos.
Anyway my main question, where is the link to Google photos?
    Thanks.

I agree. When using the Block editor you need to click on “Media Library” and then the downwards pointing arrow top left where it says “choose media library source”.

Thanks, of course there is no downward pointing arrow.
I search for ways to connect google photos and wordpress as I have down 2 times and each and every helpful site i visit gives another advice, and when I follow it nothing looks as described.
I know I lack some skills for this, and I can never remember what I did before, but that’s what I mean by intiutive. If wordpress and google have decided to collaborate, shouldn’t that be an easy thing?
well, another day lost in frustration

I assume you’re definitely in the Block post editor and talking about https://waldstream.wordpress.com/? Click the “plus” on the left, then “image” , then “media library” then the downwards pointing arrow on the top left.
Failing that, click the three dots top right to come out of the block editor altogether, scroll down on the right and re-enable the classic editor. (Note that won’t work on sites hosted elsewhere using the WordPress.org software).
