Google Reader Shared Items Don’t Display in RSS Widget
-
I’m trying to use the RSS widget for my shared Google Reader items, but it doesn’t work. I typed in this feed address: http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/02807664493882265625/state/com.google/broadcast
When I close the RSS widget window and hit save, it shows the title of the feed on my site, but no shared items. The widget doesn’t say there’s a problem with the feed though.
Is it because this is an atom feed? Anyone have any clues?

That’s an Atom feed. Something in the back of my mind says the RSS widgets don’t support Atom. Can’t remember for sure.
Feedback sent.

Yes, I found out that WordPress.com does not support Atom 1.0, only 0.3. But I found a work around using feed43.com. It allows you to make an RSS feed out of any site, even ones that don’t have them.
It took a bit to figure out, but I got it to work. The “My Selected News” on my site (cityinvincible.wordpress.com) is from my shared items in Google Reader. Much easier than using the News Vine widget.

I asked Jeff (the great blogger from cityinvincible) for the details on how he setup feed43. For all those who might want to know, below are the pertinent parts of his reply. It worked for me and I hope it works for you.
Thanks Jeff!
Here’s what I filled in for each field on Feed43. Don’t put anything
in the fields I don’t mention-Step 1-

For anyone seeing gReader looks in my blog, checkout http://spectorsthoughts.wordpress.com/.

I have tried several times, in vain, to duplicate the success of spector2 in displaying a g-reader feed on my blog. I have followed the feed43 workaround, with the above steps 1-3, to no avail. I get generic links which lead nowhere or google server errors. Rather frustrating.

Hi there,
Would you care to share how you resolved this so others can benefit from your learning? -
Oh yeah. Sorry.
In your google reader home page, simply click on the shared items tab.
You will see this…
“They are available as a page at http://www.google.com/reader/shared/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (and there’s a feed too)”Right click on the underlined link “a feed”-not the rss icon- and save that link location.
Paste it into your rss widget, save and you’re done. -
