Google referrers

    Hi,
I’m running ads in Google Adwords, pointing people to my WordPress site. Adwords says that since late January there have been 5.78 K clicks on the ads, which take people straight to https://heartbeast.com.au/bouncers/, however the WordPress stats don’t show any of that activity. Why is that?
    Thanks,
    D

  • Hi there,

When someone clicks on a link to your site somewhere else, the website where they click on that link sends us something called a Referrer Header that tells us where the traffic comes from.

Not all sites send those headers, though, and users can also actively block those headers via tracking-protection add-ons in their browsers. If we don’t receive those headers from the origin site, we simply don’t have the data to show in your stats. It sounds like Google doesn’t send those headers for clicks on Google ads

The spike in your stats over the past three weeks does seem to correlate with the data you got from AdWords, though – over the past three weeks you’ve had around 6800 views on your site as opposed to the 100 views per week on average over the past few months.
