Google search always shows text from a widget
-
Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I am not sure where to post it.
When I google my blog most of the results show the copyright text from one of my sidebar widgets. Most of my posts have at least some text – not just photos – so why does beginning of my post text never show under the post titles?
Is there something that I need to do differently when I write/publish new posts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Understanding the mind of the g00g is virtually impossible. In general they do not pull stuff from widgets, but will pull from the posts, but if there is little text, and they don’t really see much of anything to use for their snippet in the search results, they will snoop around until they find something they think will work.
There really isn’t any way to control what they pull as their snippet I’m afraid. About the only thing you can do is to try and make sure you put in some text for them to grab, and make sure it has some keywords in it (that someone would use to search and find your post).

Ah, ok. I’d found something in Google’s Webmaster Tools about ‘snippets’ and ‘meta tags’ and ‘DMOZ’ and lots of other things that mean absolutely nothing to me. It sounds like it is possible to change how your results appear, but it’s far too advanced for me!
Thank you both anyway :)

Actually with meta descriptions, what Google has said, is that they MAY use your meta description. I’ve seen many cases where very nice meta descriptions were crafted and included, and Google completely ignores them.
Also, we can’t do meta descriptions here, so as far as blogs at wordpress.com are concerned, it is sort of a moot point.

Which is probably all for the best. I hate to think what would happen if I tried to do something that advanced!
Thanks for letting me know – the Google Tools page had me completely baffled.
