Google search and blogs
-
I have tried finding my blog in Google search and nothing comes up by typing in “Jan Tala”, but if i then click on “Blogs” (under the “More” link on left of Google page) then my postings are there. What i want to know is, will people only find my blog by going into “Blogs”?? I assumed i’d come up in a normal search.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
I just had another look and it says my blog URL was dropped from the search as it was not supported for that kind of search!! I haven’t a clue what that means.
-
Sorry!! I appear to be answering myself here. It’s just dawned on me what this means. I set my blog to “Mature” when i first set it up because of some of my art, but then i asked for it to be undone, which they did, and my blog is no longer “Mature”, but i guess Google doesn’t know that yet. Will Google eventually list me now i’m no longer “Mature” or am i doomed now??
-
I think the “Mature” is a WordPress.COM flag – I am not sure if Google uses it or not.
It can take 4 to 6 weeks to be initially indexed by search engines. WordPress calls up Google and others each time you make a Post – so each Post is a sort of “come look at me” message.
-
Oh OK. But i can be found in blogs but not search, that doesn’t make much sense, and i have 23 posts. With previous blogs i’ve been indexed in 2 days. And the fact it tells me my URL was dropped from search doesn’t make sense either. I guess i’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Thank you for your help.
-
You are indexed by Bing, but Google just hasn’t gotten around to your blog yet. As has been said, it can take 4-6 weeks for Google to index a new site.
Have you verified your blog with Google webmaster tools?
BTW, the “mature” tag is only internal to wordpress.com. Google and the other search engines do not even see that designation.
-
Yes i’ve verified my site, and my images have all the required fields filled in. I just didn’t understand why i can be found in “Blogs” but not in the main search…that’s what was puzzling me, but thank you for letting me know about the “mature” tag.

I still think there is something odd going on here. I have 26 posts and am still not listed with Google, but i started another blog four days ago and that is now listed, and yet has only 4 posts. Could someone please give me a clue as to what is going on. I know you say it can take 4 to 6 weeks, but i have had many blogs over the years and they have all been listed within a week, as is this case with my most recent blog.

Sorry, it’s http://jantala.wordpress.com and can i also say Google have visited my blog twice (i have Statcounter)..
-
Well, maybe Google found some of your art too spicy and made your blog invisible in Safe Search. Take Safe Search off and see if the blog turns up then.
-
I did have my blog as “Mature” but asked for it to be undone, which WordPress kindly did…so you may have hit the nail on the head raincoaster. What if i deleted the Erotica, would that help me in any way? This blog is the most important to be listed as it’s my art blog.
-
Well that didn’t work…and as i said when i started this thread, my blog can be found in the “Blogs” link on Google but not in main search.
-
You are in the main search. There are 4 listings. Put the following into the main google search box.
site:http://jantala.wordpress.com/
Also remember that search engines do not completely crawl an entire site in one swoop. It make take several to tens of visits for them to completely crawl your site, and after they crawl it, then they have to filter and run it all through their meat grinders to determine where they are going to place you in their searches.
The g00g is what it is and does what it wants when it wants.
-
And removing a few posts and then checking google ten seconds after isn’t going to do you any good. It isn’t instantaneous, and I have doubts that it has anything to do with the content of your posts.
-
Thank you…it’s just that they listed my second blog after 4 posts and yet haven’t listed the first one after 26 posts. The art blog is the most important as when i have exhibitions i need people to be able to find my blog. Thank you for your help, i may just end up deleting the blog as it’s pointless if i can’t be found.
-
Give us a link to the blog that is NOT in google. We can’t even begin to help with that blog till we can see it or at least have the URL.
-
I gave you the link when you asked previously and it is linked to my name too http://jantala.wordpress.com I cannot find my blog by typing in my name Jan Tala, but my second blog which is only 2 days old with only 4 postings comes up in the search with that name. I was listed in Google with the second blog after 2 days and only 4 postings, and the most important blog with 26 postings is still not yet indexed. If my second blog hadn’t been indexed so quickly i wouldn’t be wondering what is going on.

Put this in the google search box, you ARE listed in the google main pages.
site:http://jantala.wordpress.com/
Again, it is going to take a while for google to connect all the dots and get everything up in their index. You currently have 4 links in the google main search. You also have a page rank of absolute zero since the blog is so new. That means that even if you search for a specific unique thing on your blog, you might not show up because google didn’t thing that certain unique thing was as important as you did.
1. There is no guessing, or figuring out what google does or doesn’t do
2. There can be a considerable inconsistency in what google does
3. Never use what happened in the past as a guide to what is going to happen with google in the future (you will be disappointed)I launched 6 sites for a client about two months ago, all within a half hour, all verified with sitemaps and google code done within minutes of each other. Two sites were picked up in less than 24 hours. Another site took over 7 says and two others about two weeks. The last site was just picked up this week which was at 8 weeks. All of the sites were design mirrors of each other, all on the same web host and even on the same server, but with different content. All had all of the requisite stuff Google wants to see. Now, make some sense of that spread of results if you can.
Ask raincoaster about her problems with Google. Thousands of her posts disappeared overnight from Google and have never been picked back up by them. Google claims nothing is wrong.
