google search directs readers to the wrong blog (I have two registered with WP)
-
Hello, I contribute to one WordPress blog (livingingeneva.wordpress.com) and I recently began another blog (lifespringhealingtouch.com) for which I am the administrator. WordPress automatically used the same email, username and password to set up the life spring domain. Problem: when I or others type the full domain address (www.lifespringhealingtouch.com) into the Google ‘search’ bar, they are directed to posts on the living in geneva blog, which I don’t want. Please tell me how I can correct this so that a google search using the full domain name is brought to life spring. (Happily, writing the full domain into the browser bar does direct traffic correctly.) Also, how can I increase the profile of life spring on google so that it shows up in google search when I enter the title (not the full domain name) into the search bar. Right now, the blog doesn’t even show up. Is there anything I can do about that? Thank you for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Blog more.
New blogs are not generally even ranked on Google for quite some time. The more posts you have on the new blog, the more quickly it will outrank the other blog.
-
Thanks, raincoaster, that makes sense, however, the blog is set up as more of a static website than a blog so there won’t be any posts added over time. Is there any way to increase the profile on google other than that way…perhaps if readers repeatedly request the site over time?

Get incoming links to the new site, which is going to be hard if it’s static. Stop blogging to the other site. There really isn’t that much you can do to a static site in terms of SEO. That’s why all the corporations suddenly got blogs a few years ago; they realized that civilians on Blogger were outranking them in searches for their own company names.
-
Thanks for explaining that. Sorry, but here’s a bit of a dumb question: when you say ‘get incoming links’ do you mean get people to add links to the site on their own blogs or do you mean that the more people who enter the domain url to find the site in the browser bar, or who search for it in google (which brings me back to the original problem of google misdirecting traffic), the more it will show up in google? I know there are some online services, like Attracta, that can help create a bigger profile on google with a WordPress.org site, but I don’t know if they can also help out with a WordPress.com sites. Thanks again for your input!

Yes, I mean people on their own sites should link to your site, and not just in their blogrolls, in a post itself.
Don’t pay an SEO artiste who probably won’t know how to deal with WordPress.com. Just check out hte SEO tag in the forum for ideas you can use. Like I said, though, on a static site there’s a limited amount you can do.
-
Thanks for the good advice, raincoaster! If anyone has any idea how to deal with my first question, about google misdirecting queries to the ‘wrong’ wordpress blog, please let me know. I haven’t blogged there since December and only contributed three posts, but it’s obviously enough to dominate the search on google. Thanks again.

With a static site you have a tough sell, I speak from personal experience on that one, that is why I switched from a static html site to using WordPress software and putting my articles as Posts.
If you are on good terms with the other blog owner – you can try putting a credit at the end of your three Posts to the effect of “Elaine is a genius HTPC and helps people with…………. etc” one sentence should do it with a link to your new site will help a bit
But as @raincoaster pointer out above you need to make some Posts to help search engines move your new site up and old reference down.
Can you do a series of Posts on what a HTPC is and how you can help people? Something that makes sense for your occupation & practice?
-
Thanks, auxclass…I now have a better understanding of how this works, which I didn’t before. (I wish it were possible to simply create a new WordPress identity for each new blog). I think I will start by deleting my 3 entries to the first blog (maybe that will help to erase google’s memory) and then I’ll start adding posts to the new HTCP web/blog. Sorry, beginner’s question here: how do I add a blog page to the HTCP site…one that doesn’t take over the Home/Welcome page but that would be accessible via a page called ‘Blog’ in the nav menu? Thanks again for your input!
-
It IS possible to create a new identity for each blog. But you need to have a different whole account per blog that way, each one connected to a different email.
As for your second issue, create a static Page, not a post. Then under Settings->Reading, select that page for the site to open on. Then you can delegate a different page for your blog posts.
-
Thanks Raincoaster, so it’s the email address that counts…my hunch is that I could change that in my settings…keep one blog with the old email/user/password and then create an entire new identity for the new blog. What do you think? As for blog page, I want to keep my current static page as my opening page, but from what you’re saying, I can create a new blog page, accessible via the nav menu, to which I could publish my posts. Correct?
-
I think that’s a recipe for disaster. You will lock yourself out of your accounts forever that way.
Create three separate accounts.
Yes, you designate what your blog posts page is going to be called and your posts all go there.
-
Okay, thanks. But how do I create separate accounts retroactively unless I do it through the Settings?
Thanks for the instructions about setting up a blog page…I will try that out!
-
You log out, create a new email account, go to http://Wordpress.com and create an account. You can create the new blog at the same time, so each is associated with only one user right from the get-go. If the blogs already exist, then once you have three user accounts get the one that controls, say, Blog A to Invite username A to be the admin of that blog. Invite Username B to be the admin of Blog B. Then the master username can leave both of those blogs.
