Google Search Engine – Aberrant Results Today
-
Until today, if I googled the exact title of one of my posts (especially if particularly geeky) it would usually show up quite rapidly and at the top of page 1. This evening when I googled my latest post:
Evelyn in Montreal: A Ouellette Line: 1666-1908 (Riviere-Ouelle, Quebec)
not only does my site not come up but 2 other sites that have me in their blogroll do come up:1. yourfamilytreenow.com/bloomberg-news-talks-genealogy/ – Similar –
2. apostcardaday.blogspot.com/…/alexander-nevsky-cathedral-tallinn.html – 4 hours agoApart from the small detail that my original post doesn’t show up, I wonder what will happen tomorrow when these sites are displaying my Monday posts in their Blogroll. I presume Google will read the new posts and then my original post will no longer show up on Google?
Thank you for your assistance,
EvelynThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I would not worry about this, since I have had the same experience over and over again. Based on that and the number of posts on this topic it seems like a ‘normal’ Google behavior. My guess is that Google displays fresh content (new posts) while it is new, then retracts and evaluates it, and then puts it back into the search results. The big Gee works in mysterious ways…

Recently I’m also seeing “aberrant results” when I do a Google blog search for key phrases related to my blog. A post that I did 9 days ago is in the #2 or #3 position and the other bloggers results are similiarly out of date (Sept 27-28-29). Google’s results for “relevancy” are definitely stale.
My guess is it has to do with Google’s change in site verification methods which is causing some previously verified sitemaps to be rejected with an unspecified error message. There are numerous posts about it on the wordpress forums and the GWMT help forum. My sitemap has been rejected since Sept 28, so posts since then haven’t been crawled and indexed. Based on the Google results I’d say I’m not the only one.
