    Search the Forums a bit – or just page back a few days – your question is the most ask in the Forum – you will find at least 50 helpful links and articles in the last 3 or 5 days in the Forum.

    It can also take 4 to 6 weeks for a new blog to be indexed by the search engines.

    ~~~~ Hi @timethief – could not find your link or I would have left it for them –
    Another issue is that they have ALL Pages – WordPress will call up the search engines when they do a Post – so if @onlyhueman did a few Posts then their site would call up Google and say come on over.
    There are three different search engines mentioned in your first link. Would you advise signing up for all three?
    I presume that the obsession with increasing traffic to ones blog is part of the vanity of blogging in the first place – or am I missing something?
  • Unknown's avatar
    Yes sign-up with all three if you want – after a while they will find your site anyway – so even if you don’t register with the search engines the will show up (as long as your site is not set to keep search engines out)
    Depends on why you have a site – some blogger’s are teachers and they use the blog for class, others are for their family, fraternal orgs, churches and such – others just like to rant –
    I find it much easier to send people a link to my boating safety site than try and email them a 6 meg file – and I can reach more people with my message about boating safety. So my site ties back into my teaching and like all teachers I like to think that I make a bit of a difference somewhere.
    The reason we utilize search engine optimization (SEO) is to make our content available to those who use search engines. The aim is to have our blog posts appear in the SERPs (search engine page results) when people search for the key words for the content they are looking for. Healthy blogs derive anywhere from 20 – 60% of their traffic from search engines. The reason bloggers want that search engine traffic is because it’s “targeted traffic”. The readers are already interested in the content and that means they are more likely to become regular readers, subscribers and comm enters, who are more likely to share our link with other targeted readers. If we reciprocate by commenting on their posts then our username links will be available for others to click into our blogs from, and as the other commenters will also be targeting the same content we can form relationships with them and expand the reach of our blogs to a wider audience.
    Also make sure to give your Posts relevant categories/tags as this will help them appear in the WordPress.com global tag pages, which is the best SEO out there bar none and only available to blogs hosted on WordPress.com.
