Google search with my blog
-
Hi – when I google ‘jon white photography’ I want the subtext under my blog’s search return, to display text of my choice – a short description of the site and content.
my blog is wordpress.com, with a custom domain from go daddy, http://www.jonwhitephotography.com. I use the free diversity theme from graph paper press
I tend to add tags to all my photos etc. that I upload and the blog has been verified with googles webmaster tools.
apologies if this is a stupid question.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We don’t have a “diversity” theme here at wordpress.COM. The site you reference is using Modularity Lite. Are you talking about a self-hosted blog at a different URL?
You cannot control what snippet of info Google will use from your blog. Even if you were able to set a meta description here at wordpress.COM, Google has said that they might, MIGHT use it, but there is no guarantee. In my experience they ignore a meta description about half the time and pull something else they feel (for whatever reason) is more appropriate.
The g00g does what g00g wants.

sorry, I did mean modularity lite. And its hosted here. So I guess I can’t control the text it pulls! Which is annoying. How come other sites seem to control that!

Other sites are lucky. It is a roll of the dice. Again, the g00g does what the g00g wants.
I’ve seen very good web copy editors slave over meta descriptions for days getting things just right and making sure it is succinct and very accurately describes the site, and Google does not use it.
