Google searches and blogs as websites
-
Hi folks
I’ve made a blog some time ago now
which I haven’t used like a blog- Instead I’ve used it as an educational support website for my students. Basically I put it all together but never intended to write regular posts for it. It’s never bothered me that google searches haven’t been able to find my blog as long as my students knew how to access it.
But now that I’ve left teaching it would be nice to get some more traffic- it is such a useful site for Australian students and I spent so long putting it together that it would be a shame if no one could benefit from it.
All the searches I’ve done on the topic suggest that regular posts are needed to be searchable via google- but how do permanent pages get hits? can this be done for my blog even though I will not be posting regularly? Do i use these thing called “tags”? I’m not sure I understand what these really mean- plenty of technical explanations online that don’t make a great deal of sense to me.
Thanks for any help- I’m quite competent with computers but not at all with this technical sort of web stuff.
Cheers :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Posts have Tags and Categories – Pages Don’t
When you make a Post WordPress calls the search engine’s and says “I did new stuff stop by” – the search engines stop buy between 5 seconds and 5 weeks (depending on the blog and how many changes and how active it is etc.)
You can register and verify your blog with the search engines;
http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/You have an all Page site which is the worst for search engines
Read the hints by timethief: (lots of good info there)

Make a few Posts. Google knows about your site but has not indexed it. If their are any sites you can leave a Post on about your resource site it will help to raise your visibility. Posts raise your sites visibility.
Take your email off the front page and build a Contact Form (real easy) to cut down on Spam Bots: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ you can build the Contact Form on a Page or Post then reference it with a link other places on your site.
If you put “site:http://1ogos.wordpress.com/” in Google you will find 14 entries.
The above should keep you busy for a few minutes. I expect others might add some advice also later.
Good luck. I always like good information to be made available on the web.

Thank you for the detailed reply, the links, and for taking the time to explain how it all works so clearly.
Sorry for my late response though- I’ve been busy on a PhD and will definitely work through your suggestions as soon as I get some time! :)
