Google searching my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I hope this makes sense! My blog is called agirlsewgeeky.wordpress and i tried to search for it on Google to see how it appears however it will only show if i write it as: agirlsewgeeky rather than: a girl sew geeky – with spaces. How do i get it to come up in a search with spaces as other people would look it up? What have I done wrong?
    Thanks
    Gemma

Here’s a wp support page with links to info about SEO (search engine optimization) that are interesting to read.

Online searches bring up so many results that they have to be ranked in order of “most popular” / “most likely to be reputable” or else “Promoted” – as in the site owner is paying google to place it high in the results. You probably are in the search results, but if your blog is fairly new, you many be way down on page 32 or even 132…

When you first start blogging, your friends should have the exact url for your site. But if you keep posting readable and interesting posts, and also do a little work to make contact with others who have your same interests (like post comments on other craft and sewing blogs) you will eventually get more readers. That traffic will gradually bring you higher in the google results.

Then more people will find you, post some of your posts onto their Pinterest boards, link to you on their own blogs/ fb pages, and it will snowball.

The best thing to do is to ignore that you have few readers at first and keep on posting as if you do have readers, so that when any come, there will be something interesting there for them to browse and read and save links to.

If you post consistently, and after a while other blogs start to make links to you, google searches will gradually rank you higher and higher in their results. After a while, searching for your blog name with spaces WILL bring readers to your site, you just aren’t there quite yet.

That’s what happened with my craft-tutorial blog – I could not find myself in Google searches for months after I first started, but after a few years I was up near or at the top of the results any search for my topic (which is also the name of my blog–not very original!)
