Google shared publications only showing privately – need public please
-
Hi,
I have only just realised that my posts that I have published to google+ have only been published privately. This is a business account so I need to have these displayed publicly.
How do I ensure my wordpress posts are published privately to google+?
How do I change the wp pushed posts to google+ that are currently private to public?
If I need to repost them to google+, is there a way of doing that without reposting to my wordpress blog?
Thanks
MariskaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Mariska!
How do I ensure my wordpress posts are published privately to google+?
I believe you meant “published publicly” instead of “privately”. If so, can you visit this page?
https://plus.google.com/u/1/apps
From that page, make sure that WordPress is set to Public as shown here:
How do I change the wp pushed posts to google+ that are currently private to public?
This would need to be done per post on Google+, but at the moment, I can’t actually find out how to change the visibility of an already-published post. You may need to reshare the posts specifying them as public as explained below.
If I need to repost them to google+, is there a way of doing that without reposting to my wordpress blog?
You’ll need to share these directly to Google+. You can do that by loading your Google+ profile page. You should see an option to share something new:
Once you click inside that box, you can post a comment and the link to the post as shown here:
Can you give that a try?

Hi Jeremy,
A HUGE thank-you for your in depth assistance here. I really appreciate the effort you have made with the extra links and screen shoots as it made this really simple to sort out after having spent lots of time trying to work it out for myself yesterday.
Job well done – you deserve a pay rise!

Hello again,
I have just checked my g+ account for a couple of recent posts from WP published to my G+ and they have still gone private. I checked the link you provided above and it is definitely set to public.
Any other suggestions to check so G+ posts from wp go public?
Thanks again.

Hi Mariska,
That’s odd! Can you please try disconnecting and reconnecting Google+ to see if that fixes it for you? When you reconnect to Google+, you’ll be able to choose to make your posts there public by default.
Please let us know how that goes. :)

Hi again,
I have disconnected and reconnected and it is definitely public. However my post yesterday went through again as private to G+. Any other suggestions on how to ensure my G+ posts from my WP site go public not private?
Thanks

Hi Mariska,
Sorry this still isn’t working! Here’s another approach you can try:
First, disconnect Google+ in the Sharing settings on your site.
Then, head to the “Manage Apps” page at https://plus.google.com/apps on Google+. You’ll see WordPress listed there. When you hover over WordPress you’ll see a pencil icon appear on the right and you can click that to get a dropdown menu like this: https://cloudup.com/cwHZ-76qjh4
Click the “Disconnect” button there to disconnect WordPress on the Google+ end. Then, make sure the “Visible to” settings are Public (you can click the edit link to change that).
Once that’s done, go back to your site’s Sharing settings and reconnect to Google+. You’ll see a screen pop up asking for permission to connect WordPress to Google+. Make sure the second item has the visibility settings you want: https://cloudup.com/c9b8lBRLpR8
If your posts still don’t publish publicly after that, let me know — in that case, I’ll need to ask our team to see if there are any other settings on our end that might be causing trouble.

Hi again,
Just tried to do the above – however I didn’t get a menu like the one that is shown above in the second screen shot – https://cloudup.com/c9b8lBRLpR8.
I have added two screen shouts to my website media file for you to look at. WordPressgooglecapture shows the only option I get – WP would like to have offline access – I clicked accept.
Could this be like this because it is a g+ account for my business and not my personal one linked to it (which I would like to keep private). Can I have the main personal account private but have a public business account? Also, when I go back in the reconnect g+ in wp (see second screen shot – 2 in media file) I haven’t ticked Make this connection available to all users of this blog. Should I be ticking this?
If not – any other suggestions please?
Thanks
Mariska

Hi Mariska,
Before you reconnected in your WordPress.com site, did you log in to your business Google+ account and disconnect WordPress from the https://plus.google.com/apps page there? It needs to be disconnected in the account you’re reconnecting to.
Also, when I go back in the reconnect g+ in wp (see second screen shot – 2 in media file) I haven’t ticked Make this connection available to all users of this blog. Should I be ticking this?
You don’t have to tick this — that’s only if you have multiple users on your WordPress.com site and you want to allow everyone to publicize posts to Google+. Since you’re the only user on your WordPress.com site, you don’t need to worry about that.
