Google soft 404 error??

    Hi,

    I’ve only just noticed an email from Google that said my homepage URL had a ‘soft 404’ error. This error is real (not a fake Google email, I’ve checked the console) and has occurred several times during the last year and most recently on the 2nd January. It’s always my homepage that has had an error and when searching for my blog name on Google, I have noticed that my blog pages and posts will show up but never my homepage which must be due to this soft 404 error. Can anyone help me?
    I don’t know how to fix it myself, the URL checker seems ok now, but something in WordPress.com’s program must be interfering with Google bots? I don’t want to keep having these errors or I’ll never have a decent ranking. Please help, I don’t know what to do. :(
